A Cloudy Friday in March

Happy Friday! I am so pleased that we’re nearing the weekend. The kids are almost completely back to themselves but the adults are still struggling with the cold we’ve had over the last week+. I am still not sleeping well, have a nagging cough, and am full of sinus pressure and pain. I am hoping to really turn the corner this weekend! The lack of sleep has made it hard to wake up and my blogging time has suffered because of it. Hence the mid-day posts from me twice this week! But I have a few happy things to share with you on this cloudy and cool Friday.

Thank you all for ALL of the sweater advice you’ve given me over the last week. I decided to use the gauge I got with the size 4 needles (the swatch I did over the weekend). So this is being knit up with needles that are one size smaller AND I went down a pattern size. I’m hoping that makes enough of a difference and that that this sweater fits! I will be trying it on frequently to make sure.

I’d been planning to cast on all week long but have been too exhausted by the day’s end. I’d look forward to it all day, but couldn’t summon the energy to pick up my needles by the time I got the kids into bed each evening. But after an abbreviated morning of school, I settled in on the couch and got the provisional cast on finished and the ends joined in the round today. Now it should be easier to pick up/put down and I think I might make some progress over the weekend?

My Blackwell’s order is beginning to arrive! Their orders always ship in waves and I’m happy to have this stack of books from the Women’s Prize longlist on my “up next” shelf. I am finishing this month’s Toni Morrison selection and then diving in! I cannot wait. I’m starting with Cursed Bread and am not sure where I’ll go from there.

I have a few more from the International Booker longlist on the way. This is such an exciting time of year for reading!

We have snow in the forecast for the weekend and early next week. I’m not sure how I feel about that. We are nearing April and I think I’m ready for spring, but I am looking forward to staying cozy with my Junction sweater over the weekend. At the very least, I hope I can shake the brain fog that has been lingering and I can start to feel like myself again. I hope this weekend is full of exactly what YOU need. Take good care.

  1. I said I wasn’t going to try to tackle the entire long list, but then I went and ordered two books from Blackwell’s, and yesterday another was an ebook deal. I just hope I end up with time to read them all! (I am very glad I’ve already gotten through Demon Copperhead, especially if it makes the short list!)

I am sorry the colds are still lingering. If I lived closer, I’d drop off some homemade chicken soup. I hope the weekend brings some extra rest and some relief from the symptoms.

    1. I cannot wait to see which books you start with and what you think about them! Thanks for your kind words about this illness but… almost as soon as I pushed publish on this post, I got a call from the school. Colton has ANOTHER fever. We are on a merry go round right now!

      Enjoy your weekend!

  2. The colds this year do seem to be hanging on and that coughing can be exhausting. I think I fell ill on March 3 and today is the first day I am really feeling well again. I think I found a solution for my unraveled sweater but won’t cast on just yet. I am nearing the bottom hem of a sweater for my daughter and that is going to be my focus now. As to reading, ugh. I have kindle samples for so many books and just not finding one that is holding my attention (feeling unwell left me unable to really read) so I have set aside my reading plans and I am catching up on all the podcasts. Of course that gives me a bunch of new and interesting titles for my TBR 😂. Hope you have a restful weekend. Enjoy your knitting and reading.

    1. I am so glad to hear that you’re feeling like yourself again! I can’t wait to see your finished sweater AND your plans for your yarn! No worries about the reading, of course — those books aren’t going anywhere! But I hope your reading mojo returns soon. Have a great weekend!

  3. I hope you do indeed turn the corner this weekend and shake that cough. They are exhausting. I hope the knitting treats you well this weekend. You have an admirable attitude about more snow. I am very curious about Black Butterflies so keep us posted.

    1. Thank you, Jane! The sun is shining right now but it looks like snow and rain will be moving in this afternoon. There’s nothing we can do about it!

I will definitely keep you updated on the books. I can’t wait to dive in!

  4. That yarn is such a pretty color. Hope you are feeling better. Not easy being sick when young children are around. We got about an inch of slushy snow in central Maine. Not too bad.

    1. Thanks, Laurie! Our snow was also wet and slushy, but everything is almost all melted by now. It’s very cold and windy today, though!! I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

  5. I am glad mostly everyone is feeling better. A lot of sinus and allergies going on around here. I think that sometimes makes people feel so blah. I’ve been hearing a lot of sniffling and sneezing. I know what you mean about looking forward to starting a new project and then just not having the energy to do it. I am hoping the upcoming week is better for all of you.

  6. I hope your weekend was a very good one! (with little snow, gah!) I am also hoping the weekend saw the end to the lingering colds that have made their way through your house! I am waiting on the long list… to see what percolates to the top for the short list! XO

  7. I’m excited you started the sweater! and I’m starting to think about how I’m going to approach my pile of long list titles. I have The Dog of the North from the library, so maybe it makes sense to start there? (and it’s Tuesday now … hope everyone is feeling better!)

  8. Gosh! I sure hope everyone is better or at least on the mend. And, I hope you were able to find some knitting time over the weekend. I’ll look forward to your reviews of the books!
