Hello! I must tell you that yesterday was the most gorgeous day. We spent almost the entire afternoon outside and planted a ton of flowers from our local nursery. I could not have asked for a more perfect April day and today’s forecast predicts the same. What luck!
I wanted to update you on a lot of joyful things today, but it’s 4:15am as I type these words and Colton is already awake upstairs! So I’m going to do a very quick update and try to figure out a way to write a Full of Joy post over the weekend to share with you on Monday. Today I will just update you on my stitching – which I’ve been doing a lot of this week for some odd reason. I’ve been doing a bit of everything (knitting, cross stitching, machine piecing, and handsewing) but today’s focus is on two of my Mandolin blocks that needed some changes.
December was the last time I shared any of these blocks with you. Just a reminder about this quilt: this is the Mandolin quilt and it is english paper pieced and handsewn using all Liberty of London fabrics (Duckadilly is my source in the US). This is my second quilting project using these techniques; the Scrumptious Hexie Quilt was my first.
Back in December there were two blocks that needed fixing:

✔️ The unit circled in green at the top: the center hexie needed to be replaced so that the point faced UP.
✔️ The unit circled in green at the bottom: was one of the first blocks I finished and those inner blue squares have bothered me from the beginning. I wanted a more solid blue to contrast with the white background on the diamond and triangles around those blue squares.
Done and done!

I am much happier with both of these blocks (although I should have brightened the photo a bit – sorry!). I still really love the yellows in the block on the left and the oranges/corals on the right.
Who knows when I’ll stitch together another one? But I will let you know when I do!
I am so sorry to be in such a rush this morning. I hope you all have a weekend full of exactly what you need. Take good care!
I had a hard time picturing the “necessary” changes when you described them, but now that I see them, it’s so clear! The colors really pop (that coral is one of my favorite colors). Thank you for the update. And happy weekend!

I’m always so impressed when I see these — it’s clear there’s a lot of work in each one! I hope you have a weekend filled with joy, and I look forward to hearing all about it next week.

Thank you, Sarah. Each block is a ton of work, but it’s so enjoyable that it’s worthwhile. Plus — it’s so amazing to finish a block and be stunned by it!

Really, really pretty! Although at first I read “Mandalorian” quilt rather than “Mandolin” quilt. You can see where my mind is. 😉 Beautiful if oddly warm weather. We might as well enjoy it as the temperatures are perfect, and the vexing bugs have not yet emerged.

Thank you, Laurie! and LOL about the Mandalorian quilt – that could be a lot of fun! And yes, I’m enjoying the great outdoors WITHOUT the bugs. For now!

The quilt blocks are beautiful. What a pretty pattern but it looks a little tricky to piece. I hope you had a nice weekend.

Thanks, Jane! It looks tricky but it’s dead easy — like so many quilt patterns!
