Hello to Monday!

Friends, sorry for skipping my Friday updates lately. It seems like I’ve been running out of steam for the last few weeks! But here I am, morning session of school finished, a walk done, lunch eaten, and am settled at the table before getting on with the rest of the day. I am trying to sit down with my computer for a bit after lunch given how variable my mornings have been. I want to keep showing up here, I have so many ideas, so I have to be creative about how this gets done!

Today is just a hello, how are you. I’m sharing a few recent views on my walks, a pair of socks that I started last week, and what I’ve been listening to lately. So let’s catch up!

Listening:

First of all, what I’ve been listening to lately:

I can’t stop listening to Jon Bastiste’s latest album, Beethoven Blues. It is incredible. I am partial to Beethoven in general because he wrote a lot for the clarinet, for which I am (was) passionate about. So to hear Batiste reimagine some of these classic pieces is pure bliss. They make me so happy!

Walking:

I took this picture when I went on my walk last Tuesday. Isn’t it beautiful? There’s not nearly as much snow on the ground and it’s much icier now, but I’m waiting for the next big snowfall so that I have this view again. You can see that some people had been cross country skiing on the trail before I got there.

I’m staying consistent with walking and am relieved to say so. There’s still quite a bit of guilt associated with leaving the house (nearly) every day to spend some time on the trail but it’s been a great way for me to clear my head and find motivation to stay consistent in other parts of my life that are feeling especially hard. I’m not a fan of the holiday season and I’m just trying to get through these last few weeks of the year one step at a time.

One fun thing I’ve been watching: there’s an obvious place on the trail that is a popular game crossing spot from the river over to a pond. I’ve been trying to get a good picture of the tracks and finally succeeded today, thanks to a little fresh snow this morning that helped highlight the ridges:

What do you think? I think it might be a raccoon or a muskrat but I’m not very good at these types of things.

Knitting:

I started a pair of socks on Thursday and have been motoring through them. I got this yarn at The NH Sheep and Wool Festival this year and it’s called Bridgerton: look at all of the pretty purples and greens! I know they’re just socks but I’ve really enjoyed knitting on them in the last couple of days. I expect I’ll finish them tonight or in the morning given how much attention they’ve received.

We have an appointment for our furnace tomorrow and I’m hoping they’ll be able to fix the heat on the second floor. We’ve been managing but the high on Sunday is predicted to be 14ºF, so I’m worried our pipes might explode if there’s no heat running through them. So fingers crossed this issue gets corrected and doesn’t require us to wait for any other parts to come in!

How was your weekend? How is your week going? Please let me know how you’ve been doing!

  1. Gorgeous snowy walk photo! How lovely to have that magical lane to wander in! Even better the animal tracks. I would guess raccoon but I don’t know. We put up a wildlife camera in one spot on our property where the grass is worn into a tiny footpath. It is amazing to see how many different animals use it! Foxes, raccoons, cats, skunks. Fun to immerse ourselves in their world for a bit.

  2. I’m here to tell you to stop feeling guilty about taking time to go for a walk — you deserve that time! I love the colors in your socks, and I’m keeping all my digits crossed that you get your heat fixed. That’s not something to mess around with!

I love your walking trail… and I wish for some snow on our ground (we don’t get much snow… sigh) and I love those animal foot prints! I think you should walk without guilt! A walk does a body good!

Your sock yarn is inspiring! (I love when the sock matches a book! lol)

I hope your week is going fantastically! Mine is just flying by!

  4. I always love seeing wildlife tracks in the snow! After our surprise snow on the 3rd, I was following rabbit trails through my garden – and could also see the trail the deer too across the driveway. You captured some awesome animal tracks! 😀

  5. Those tracks are cool! Raccoon, I think?

The socks are lovely! And please don’t feel guilty for walking. You’re taking care of present you AND future you – which is a gift to your children for later, among other benefits.

  6. oh Katie – you have so much going on – I’m glad you’re making it a priority to get outside ON YOUR OWN every day – the fresh air and the exercise do wonders for your frame of mind! (and I love seeing the photos). I say “muskrat” to those tracks you saw – and !!! I hope that’s as close to a muskrat as you get (yikes). Glad the reading game is so strong right now – it’s keeping my brain off other things, too. I started Time of the Child and I’m smitten just 40 pages in…

  7. I think getting out and walking everyday sometimes saves my life. I’m glad you can find time to do that too. The snowy walks look lovely. The socks are beautiful. I love it when my making matches a book cover. Thanks for the tip on the music. I’m always on the lookout for music I haven’t heard.
