Friday | Planning a Trip to the Mountains; September Journal Flip Through

The first Friday in October is already here! Every month zooms by these days but Octobers seem to end especially quickly. I’m reminding myself that it’s only the fourth and still – we’re that much closer to the end of the month! But we’re going to try to soak in the season this weekend by heading up to the mountains.

Prepping for Leaf Peeping:

As you can see in my opening picture, the foliage is creeping into my part of the state. Amazingly, it has peaked just a little further north, as reported by our state’s Fall Foliage Tracker. Our plan on Sunday morning is to wake up early, have a quick snack, pack up breakfasts and lunches, and hit the road. We typically head into the White Mountains, which is just shy of peak. If we’re dissatisfied by the color, we’ll head all the way into the Great North Woods, which is at peak. I am so excited!!

Maybe I’m mostly excited about the food? Matthew and I tend to always pack up the same thing for this trip: asiago bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon. We almost never splurge on it (because of the price and punch of fat) throughout the year, but we each pack up two: one for breakfast and one for lunch. I’ll also be boiling a big pot of espresso for giant lattes in thermoses. The kids aren’t into the bagels, so we’ll find a bunch of stuff that’s more up their alley for meals and snacks.

And for additional entertainment, I’ll be making an extra effort over the next couple of days to prep my knitting for this trip. I’m about two rows away from separating the sleeves from the body of my Cloudesley sweater and then the knitting won’t require as much careful counting and will be perfect for car knitting and easy to pick up/put down when I need to get something for the kiddos. Maybe next week I’ll be able to share a picture of my (slow) progress.

Can you tell I’m excited about Sunday’s drive??

YouTube Videos:

I published two new videos this week! In this one, I briefly introduced myself and flipped through my September journal pages:

And if you don’t want to watch the whole video above and just want to see my journal pages, then I also published this short for you:

My Saturday will be a fairly typical one: work at the library, cooking and cleaning; but I’ll also be prepping for this road trip and buzzing with excitement about what’s to come. How about you? Do you have any plans for the weekend?

Whatever your weekend brings, I hope you find time to focus on what you need.

  1. I hope you’ll take some photos of the foliage to share with us! I’m not sure we’ll get much color here because so many leaves were already drying out with the drought we’ve had. My brother, sister-in-law, and nephew are planning to go to a local orchard this weekend to get a dose of fall fun (we’d go, too, but my kid is way past the age where that sort of thing appeals).

    1. I am planning to take pictures but sometimes I just forget!! I wish you were able to head out to the orchard, but I totally get how things can be at that age. I hope you’re able to do some fall-ish things in the coming weeks.

  3. ooohh, I sure hope your trip to the mountains was everything you hoped for – bagels & cream cheese, plenty of knitting, fall colors, and (for sure!) kiddos enjoying it all, too!! I enjoyed the flip through your September journal pages – the daily quotes (I paused the video more than once to read them), the pages that weren’t all filled in, and that mood board for October … is your “planner” (with the vertical days and washi dots) something separate?

    1. Thank you, Mary! The trip was wonderful (post up now!). And yes – I’ve been using the daily pages that are in the back of my planner for journaling! It’s nice to have everything in the same book.
