I Made a YouTube Video

I did something really scary this week: I recorded a video and uploaded it on YouTube!

It’s planner season and many of us are considering our systems for next year. I’ve been a Hobonichi fan for so long and have decided that I’ll be using an A5 Hon again next year.

I’ve been chatting with several of you via email about how I’ve been using my notebook lately, especially the journaling pages, and have wanted to share images with you all for quite a while. It seemed like filming a video was going to be the best way to do that so I gathered all of my courage, ordered a special light, and figured out how to use my headphones as a microphone. I recorded the video and uploaded it on Monday night, then had to figure out how to give it a cover and tags, etc yesterday. Baby steps.

In this video, I’m sharing how I lay out the page to include room for a daily quote, a to-do list (as needed), a place for notes throughout the day, and morning & evening journaling. I also give you a few strategies that make it easier to get started when you don’t know what to write about.

I have to admit that this was fun and I want to learn how to edit videos now.   5. Well done, in every way, Katie! And the fact that you enjoyed it and want to learn/do more—? All the better.
    I’ve experimented with journaling my One Word this year, differently than I have before. While I don’t write in it daily, I love what it has become…record, reflection, art journal, vision. It’s fun to see/hear/learn how everyone does it differently—and it’s sacred, all the same.

    Looking forward to another video sometime!

    1. Kat – you are so kind. Thank you! The planner in this video is the 2024 Hobonich A5 Hon. The art work on the cover is by Tomitaro Makino. Here’s the little blurb that Hobonichi provides on him: “[he] was born in Sakawa, a rural village west of Kochi City, on the 24th of April in 1862. His curiosity in plant life developed into a devotion to botanical research. At the age of 22 he moved to the capital to pursue his interest at Tokyo University. Three years later he launched the Botanical Magazine Tokyo, an esteemed journal still published today. An avid field botanist, Makino collected some 400,000 botanical specimens and named over 1,500 new species and subspecies of plants during his life.”

      I have several notebooks from Hobonichi that are illustrated by him! They are all lovely 🙂

    1. Thank you, Sarah! I say use the notebooks you have! And if you’re interested in Hobonichis, they also have notebooks that start 4/1, so if you’re using your notebooks consistently and decide on a new notebook, April isn’t too far away!
