The tulips pictured are our survivors – the rest have been plucked or stomped. But aren’t they gorgeous? Overall, we didn’t get as many blooming tulips this year so it’s probably time to replenish our bed. We’ll be busy planting them this fall!
The lilacs are starting to open, which is the moment I’ve been waiting for since the branches started to even tinge towards green. I can’t wait to cut little bouquets of these for my desk! Our yard is starting to look distinctly jungle-ish – sadly, it’ll be time to bring out the lawn mower soon.
I’m reading, reading, reading again and love it! Isn’t it funny how you get on a reading roll and everything is so good, but then you fall out of the roll and everything is so bad? Or is it the other way around? Which comes first? Maybe everything is so good because you’re on a roll and everything is so bad because you’ve fallen out of it. I feel like Willy Wonka all of a sudden. Either way – I’m on a roll and everything is so good!
We’ve mostly spent our days outside this week. Not a lot of schooling got done (luckily today is a catch up day), we didn’t do a lot of reading aloud, and I certainly didn’t attempt a tea party. But there’s time for all of that on stormy days or when the weather is either too hot or too cold. The days have been too gorgeous to pass up, so I’m not going to worry too much about what we didn’t do.
I learned about the Tartine Bread book from Carole and Kat – um, yum! I was only expecting a book about sourdough bread but it’s full of the most amazing looking recipes. I think it’s going to be my go-to cookbook this summer when I want to get fancy in the kitchen. I love to eat like this everyday but don’t always enjoy the cooking – I wish I could find a way to love that process!
The weekend forecast is lovely – I hope it turns out as predicted. If it does, you’ll probably be able to find us in the yard somewhere! The plan is to plant the cold-sensitive vegetables this weekend since we seem to be out of frost danger – cucumbers, tomatoes, corn, squash, zucchini, and beans. I’m also hoping to make good progress on my Birkin sweater – cross your fingers that I finish the first sleeve and am able to start on the second!
That’s it from me this week – enjoy your weekend and stay safe!
