I’m Committing to Tome Topple!

Thanks to Zezee at Zezee with Books, I just learned about Tome Topple. This challenge was started last year and it looks pretty straightforward. During the given two week period, you just try to read a book that is over 500 pages. Don’t finish during that time period? No problem – you still participated! Finished 5 books with 500+ pages – congratulations! You also participated!

It’s just an opportunity for people to get moral support while tackling big books. I think many of us get discouraged with hefty novels, so it’s encouraging to know that there are others waiting to cheer you on.

This Tome Topple read-a-thon runs from August 4th through August 17th, which is coming up very soon!

I have two tomes that have been sitting on my shelf and I’d like to tackle. I don’t believe that I’ll finish both of them, but it will be fun to see how far I can get!

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr is a WWII novel set in France (my favorite place and time period!). I don’t know much more about it than that, but have heard from many different people that it’s written beautifully and that it sticks with you.

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski is going to be a huge mistake. I’m terrified of haunted house books, but I’ve had this one for years and would really like to understand what the fuss is all about. This focuses on a family that moves into a home and finds that there are hidden rooms within it. I think it also involves kids, so the more I think about it, the more I realize -that this is almost certainly a no-go for me. It’s likely that I’ll decide on something else if I finish my first pick, because this one sounds too terrifying to even imagine!

  1. Once again, I’m not seeing you in my feed, which is why I’m late seeing your posts! This is a very cool thing you’re participating in. I’ve heard some very good things about House of Leaves, so I’m looking forward to your posts if you read it! All the Light We Can Not See was very good, beautiful writing. I keep meaning to read more by him but haven’t yet.

    1. Dang! I have no idea what I’m doing wrong with this reader issue. I don’t see you listed as a follower either, so I think I might have somehow made myself very difficult to follow!

But I’m excited that you liked All the Light (..) I still haven’t started it because I got wrapped up in a different tome (of course!!). I’m not really sure that I’ll ever actually read House of Leaves. I WANT to, but I doubt I’ll ever follow through!
