In my last post, I mentioned that I’ve been obsessed with knitting and sewing again. I wanted to share a few recent projects here, if that’s okay. I know that it’s not book related, so feel free to skip if you’re not interested!!
A recent finish is my Find Your Fade shawl. I am so in love with this one – I chose bold colors that I’ve been eying forever, but never thought I’d be able to use. In this project, I used Hedgehog Fibres Sorry Not Sorry > Dream in Color Pansy Golightly > Hedgehog Fibres Birthday Cake > Hedgehog Fibres Opalite > Hedgehog Fibers Monet > Mrs. Crosby’s Satchel Sunset Regatta > Hedgehog Fibers Wish. And it is magical!
I’m also still knitting on my Bluebells Cardigan – it’s all knitted up and I have cut the steek
(a steek is where you actually CUT your knitting up the center. Steeking allows you to knit in the round, rather than back and forth, which can be much slower). This was the first steek that I’ve ever cut and I was scared silly. I’d like to say that I was scared for nothing, but the worst possible scenario happened. I cut my live stitches and I have some unraveling. Hoo boy. I’m furiously trying to save this project because I have been knitting it for two years – I’d really like something wearable out of it! I’ll keep you in the loop!
The quilting project that I’ve been working on is a classic quilt block called Handy Andy. I’ve been using some of my hoarded Bonnie and Camille fabrics and it is turning out so lovely! I’m using a mix of reds and pinks for the Ohio Stars in the center, and then greens and aquas for the frames. I’ve also decided to cut and sew in cornerstones, which I think will create a really cool echo effect and awesome secondary pattern. I’m still trying to figure out the best placement of all of my blocks. I made 40 blocks, but I think I’ve decided to make two quilts – each with twenty. That was my original plan, but somewhere in the middle I decided to make one humongous quilt. But once I started laying out the blocks, I decided to go back to Plan A. I’m going to run and keep playing with layouts!!
