Thank you all for your encouraging and kind comments last week! It was so nice to connect with all of you and I’ve enjoyed the back and forth I’ve had with many of you throughout the week. I am still catching up on emails — you all are just so amazing. I’m in awe of what a fun group we’ve created in this quiet little corner of the internet. Thank you again.
As you can see from my opening picture, we have had some amazing weather. I walked on three different trails this week and it was so much fun being out and getting sweaty. The bugs will be out soon so I’m definitely enjoying this while it lasts. The best part is that things are finally starting to green up around the edges. We’ll blink and it will be a jungle out there!
We’ve spent this week getting ready for the puppy. We’re doing our best to find homes for all of the little toys that have been hiding in the shadows. How many times have I heard I’ve been looking for that! this week? I’m hoping that the fear of what could happen to the puppy will be enough to help keep everything put away, but I’m not totally delusional (yet). We are a work in progress.
I think we have everything we need right now but am sure we’ve forgotten something. And we still haven’t 100% landed on a name, but we’re pretty close to agreeing. So – ready or not, Sunday is the big day!
Knitting Progress:

I took a long break from my Lettuce Mint sweater but have been back at it this week. I’m on the last repeat before I separate the front and the back. I am still delighted by these Sonder Yarn Co greens (Parade and Game Set Matcha) and the pattern was so easy to jump back into despite my break. Here’s my Ravelry link with the particulars.
Summer Reading Project:

I’m planning a little Summer Reading Project for myself. I’m hoping to read about Jim Crow through the voices of Black Americans who lived through it. So far I’m planning to read the two part series called Jim Crow: Voices From a Century of Struggle edited by Tyina L. Steptoe (part two will be published in late May); Zora Neale Hurston’s memoir called Dust Tracks on a Road (recommended by Mary); and You Don’t Know Us Negroes and Other Essays, a book of essays by various writers and historians including Zora Neale Hurston, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and Genevieve West. If you know any other memoirs or books of nonfiction that you think will be eye-opening, I welcome your recommendations! And of course, you’re always welcome to join me.

In addition to researching books for this little project, my personal reading is slowly starting to take off again — and that feels so good! I went through a reading slump during Matthew’s health scare and had been struggling to focus. But things feel like they’re returning to normal and just in time for Independent Bookstore Day! It’s on Saturday and I’m planning to visit my local Indie in the late afternoon after I leave work. I cannot wait — it’s always the funnest day of the year at the bookstore!
How has your week been? Do you have any plans for the weekend? Will you be visiting a bookstore? Be sure to let me know in the comments. And I hope you find time for whatever you need this weekend. Take good care.

Can’t wait to hear about your puppy AND realize that you likely won’t have much time to write. I’ll be thinking of you for sure…and fingers crossed that the bugs stay away for a bit longer!

What an exciting day Sunday will be! Welcome, puppy! Have fun on Independent Bookstore Day. We are all recovering from nasty colds—not serious, but wow they took the stuffing out of us. As the weekend is supposed to be rainy, I expect we’ll be watching movies and series. I recently learned about The Sanbaggers, a 1978 British spy thriller series. Right up our alley.

Looks like a lovely week of walks! Last week I managed a walk every day, but this week I didn’t get one in until this morning 🙃
Sadly no bookstore visit for me this weekend (my account is probably happy about that, lol) … but I do hope to make another batch of bread, and plant my last tomatoes and cucumbers, and then we are going to tackle our first batch of strawberry jam for the year.

Isn’t it just the best to get out and walk on these cool and warm Spring days? Best of luck on the great puppy adventure. As far as your summer reading project, I wonder about reading about Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. I haven’t read a recent biography, A Passionate Mind but would like to do so. I did read the fictional account of the friendship between Eleanor Roosevelt and Dr. Bethune in First Ladies. I thought the book might have looked at the relationship with a perspective more in keeping with our time, it was interesting and readable.

The warmer weather and green on the trees is such a mood booster, isn’t it? That combined with a puppy should set you up for a lovely spring 🙂 I’ve fallen off knitting a bit too, but you are inspiring me to pick mine up again soon.

Belated catching up! Your walks don’t look much different from mine in the bottom photos … but it’s way greener here on the top. I look forward to following your summer reading project – and glad my recommendation was helpful.

I’m playing catch-up because your posts didn’t appear in my Blogger feed (a known problem that keeps happening). I’m happy to see your sweater is making progress and that your reading is picking back up.

I’m catching up on posts because both my husband and son have been under-the-weather/indisposed, so I’ve not had time or focus lately. By now I guess you have your puppy? I hope it’s going well!
