Happy Tuesday, friends! I meant to get this post written yesterday but time… it goes so quickly! But I’ve found a few minutes this afternoon to settle in with my computer so I think I might get it finished today. I’m so pleased to share my first two finished knitting projects of 2024!
Before I get to my projects, I have to share that my feelings of contentment have stretched through the second week of the year. It felt really nice on Sunday to wake up to a big snowstorm, cook breakfast, work with my sourdough starter, and finish up a sweater. And then when I left my sweater to soak and casted on a new project almost immediately? What a feeling. I’m here for it! All of these feelings and activities are related to my new word of the year, which I have yet to share. More on that soon! And now, on to the knitting update!

Friends, this DRK Everyday Sweater fits perfectly. It might actually be my favorite knit ever. When I was an undergrad, I had a gray wool sweater that I practically lived in. And then I accidentally put it in the wash and you can guess what happened. I was so sad! So I’m thrilled to finally have another one. I’ve been wearing it today (I took it off to take this picture) and am so happy with it.
This is knit up in Ooskit yarn. It’s a DK weight while the pattern calls for worsted, so I had to play with the gauge a bit but found the perfect stitch count for me.

On Sunday I realized that I didn’t have a winter hat. I bought Andrea Mowry’s Quill pattern a few years ago and decided to finally make it. I found this olive green Cascade 220 in my stash and went for it. It went quickly and I’m wearing it as I type this! So now I have a winter hat and a second very satisfying finish.

B+B had a homeschoolers program at the Discovery Center on Monday so I cast on for a simple pair of socks that morning to ensure that I’d have something to keep my hands busy while I waited for them. It’s amazing how quickly even socks come together when you actually spend time working on them!
Last night I ordered yarn for my next sweater. I’ve decided on the Anker’s Sweater by PetiteKnit (Ravelry link) and I am so excited to get started! I didn’t want to splurge too much, so I ordered the yarn from KnitPicks and am always so pleased with the quality of the yarn despite the price being so affordable. I will keep working on my socks while I wait for that order to arrive!
That is my stitching life right now! We are expecting quite a bit of snow tonight, which will turn to rain, and will likely be a giant mess. I plan on settling in on the couch, rewatching some of the third season of All Creatures Great and Small, and knitting on my socks. So many of us have been experiencing awful weather lately, so I hope you’re all staying safe. I’m planning to be back on Friday with an update on my reading of The Comfort of Crows. Take good care!

Katie,
Beautiful sweater and hat! I love the snow. Here in FL this morning we had Tornado warnings. We are safe and we had rain and some wind. All is well. Enjoy this time as days move so quickly and life moves too quickly!!!

That sweater is gorgeous! Well done YOU! 🙂
I am telling myself it is much better to savor All Creatures versus a binge watch of them all! (so far that is working! LOL)
There are so many of us slow-reading Comfort of Crows… that just makes me happy!

Thanks, Kat! I hadn’t even realized that the fourth season was available, so I started that last night instead. I watched the first two episodes and made myself stop 🙂 I also like to savor them!

I’m so impressed you have time to knit so many beautiful items, a sweater, hat and socks! I haven’t moved beyond dishcloths. Enjoy the snow!

You are so kind, Gretchen. Thank you! Dishcloths are a great project – they are useful year round! And it’s warmed up, so the snow has turned to rain and everything is getting sloppy – yikes!

What a great way to start the year! There is nothing better than a cozy sweater that fits perfectly. I have a feeling you will be wearing that one until it falls apart. And I can’t wait to see what yarn you picked for the next one!

Thanks, Sarah! I went very basic for my next sweater: I chose KnitPicks Swish DK in Moss. I’m really into dark green right now! But I went to my LYS yesterday after giving blood to see if they still carried spinning supplies (they don’t, boo) and wished I would have waited. They have such a beautiful selection of local yarns and I would have much rather spent MORE money supporting my LYS and local artists. That’s okay – I just had no idea they’d grown so much in the last year or so. Next time!

I absolutely love that Everyday Sweater! I’m looking for a “master sweater pattern” that’s just the right level of difficulty and just the right fit, so I can work up a wardrobe of them. I’m wondering if this might be something like that?! I’ll have to check it out.
Sounds like you are onto something with your new word and the start of your year! Can’t wait to hear what it is.

Carolyn, I think the Everyday Sweater might be what you’re looking for. This is my second one and I still wear my first all the time. Because they’re so basic, they’re easy to customize to your preferences – body length, arm length, etc.
I’m so excited to share my new word! I think I might finish my post by next week?!

Two finishes, socks in process, and yarn on the way – 2024 is going to be a knitting year for you! I love the Ankers pattern – I’ve made FOUR short-sleeved shirts, all in cotton/linen/blends. What yarn are you planning?

Thanks, Mary! I ordered Swish DK in Moss from KnitPicks. But I went to my LYS yesterday to look for spinning supplies (because I’m totally learning this year but donated all my stuff a few years ago) and their yarn selection has grown so much since I was last in. I wish I would have gotten something from there!!

Two lovely knitted items is a great way to start the year. It is amazing isn’t it – if one works on a project, progress is made. I seem to have to learn this lesson over and over. Three cheers for an extension of that peaceful feeling.
