Friday Cozies – Week 45 of 2020

Fridays around here are for sharing joyful moments from the week. Typically I share a handful of pictures and give a little update on our week. This week will be a little different because I took ZERO pictures!

I’ve been feeling the stress from the election – and I’m sure you’ve been feeling it, too. But I won’t use the “e” word in this post again because we could all benefit from thinking about something else for the next few minutes!

Instead, here are just three things that made me really happy this week in my home:

  • You can read about our basement conundrum here AND I’m happy to report that we finally have a plan in place to start moving things around. I’ve cleaned out the Corner of Doom for the most part and Matthew will start moving around the big stuff today. A sewing corner is in my future!
  • Matthew was off on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week in order to volunteer with our community on Tuesday and follow the current big news story (no more “e” word, remember?). Even though he was gone from 6:15am until after 8pm on Tuesday, it was great having him home on Monday and Wednesday this week!
  • Not much school work has gotten done this week, but we’ve done a TON of reading aloud, which brings me so much joy. There’s nothing better than putting on the kettle, popping some popcorn, setting out playdoh, and reading cozy children’s books all day long! If you’re feeling stressed, I recommend visiting your local library and picking up a few books from the children’s section. Seriously. Our current chapter books: The Wind in the Willows, Mercy Watson Fights Crime, and The Spiderwick Chronicles (load up on these – they’re short and terribly satisfying). An aesthetic bonus to checking these books out from the library: library binding on children’s books is top-notch. I love how they feel!

And a bonus moment of joy: on Tuesday I published the 500th post on this blog. That feels like such an accomplishment. Many of you know that I’ve had blogs since high school and never found a rhythm for posting, yet somehow The Cozy Burrow has survived. I don’t think it could have survived 2020 without all of you, so thank you.

May this weekend be peaceful, calm, and an opportunity for renewal. Keep breathing and stay hopeful.

  1. Congratulations on 500 posts! šŸ™‚ And YAY for the reading, it’s so beneficial in so many ways for both the listener and the one who reads. šŸ˜‰ (I really liked Spiderwick, but thought it surprisingly dark! Like right in the first book with the cat and all …. Wow)

I am really happy that you are getting your sewing corner and that the cellar is being sorted out, you’ll be so relieved once that is done! (I always have this: Once you have sorted out a corner that has bugged you for ages, you’ll take “trips” to that corner to look at it. XD )

    1. Thank you, Julia! Bear loves scary books and he’s totally into Spiderwick. And I think they’re cozy and delicious!

I’m hoping to share the sewing corner either this Wednesday or next – it’s coming together šŸ™‚

  2. First, thank you to your husband for working on Tuesday. I really appreciate his commitment!

I am trying not to think about the “e word,” but I’m not being very successful — and at least the news is good! I’m feeling so much better this morning, but I’m still anxious for it to be over.

It’s been a few years since kiddo and I did read-alouds of books (now that she’s reading on her own very well), but I remember those days well. We were just talking last night about how, when it’s safe to do so, we’d like to spend a gloomy weekend afternoon at our local library, curled up with a book.

  3. I’m so glad you’ll have a sewing corner of your own! Hopefully it will be a spot for lots of calm and fun crafting. I’m glad you were able to find some moments of joy with your family this week.
And congrats on 500 posts – even though I’ve not been around for that many of them, you’re one of my favorite bloggers here and I love connecting with you ā¤

  4. playing catchup … how is it possible that this has seemed like the longest week ever, and yet, I had no time do anything?!? I love that you’re sticking to your journaling (and blogging – congrats on 500!!!) routines while you’re navigating school and meals and everything else. Looking forward to seeing what y’all are doing in the basement. It sounds very exciting!

    1. It felt like someone pushed the pause button last week – I had a hard time staying on track with everything. Let’s hope things get back to normal this week (at least, a relative normal)!
