A Look Into Our Notebooks – Week 43 of 2020

Today is the last Monday in October — that feels bizarre, right? This month has whizzed by and I don’t even feel like I’ve properly enjoyed the Halloween-y aspects of it all. My goal in the last few days of the month is to soak up as much of the Halloween spirit as I can! But today I’m sharing last week’s spread in my Traveler’s Notebook. You’ll be able to see how I focused I am on my handsewing project!

Last Thursday marked 200 days of morning pages! It feels like a huge milestone. As of this morning I am on Day 204. I’ll keep going for as long as I’m able, I suppose.

We didn’t spend as much time outside last week (blue) due to a couple of factors: 1) it’s getting cooler; 2) we spend an hour in the morning taking Bug back and forth to his day center, which is the time we’d typically be outside and playing. Even with less time outside, the kids are doing a great job transitioning to table time in the dining room and settling down to a morning full of learning. And we Did School all five days last week, which is an accomplishment. I typically plan to have one morning (usually Fridays) full of games to help keep things exciting and super playful, but everyone was happy to fall into a nice routine.

The most significant use of my alone time last week was devoted to sewing (yellow)! It’s been my quiet time project (just after lunch) and what I’ve spent all of my time on after the kids go up to bed. I’m really enjoying this project right now and am happy to strike while the iron is hot.

I’m still loving this notebook insert. It helps keep me grounded – as I turn to my notebook every few hours to update my day (which only takes a couple of seconds each time), it reminds me how quickly the day moves. How all of the little decisions I make throughout the day defines my life. So if I want to conk out in front of the couch in the evening because I’m exhausted (like I did every day last week), I can just add a little handiwork and it feels like the perfect combination of resting while inching towards completing a larger project.

I’m pleased that things seem to be working right now, but I’m sure our rhythm will shift again soon. We’ll be ready for it!
