Friday Cozies 12.20.19

Friends, it is cold in my part of the world right now. Bone chillingly cold. Waiting for the school bus in the morning feels like putting our very lives in danger. But the other day, my oldest wrapped himself in blankets on the couch, screamed “Mom! Mom! Mom! Mom!” until I appeared in the doorway and said, “Look at me. Don’t I look cozy?” You know that makes me happy! And when it’s so cold, it’s easy to find ways to get cozy! Here’s what I’ve been turning to lately.

I have this instant coffee on subscribe & save. I’m not kidding. I drink plenty of coffee and tea throughout the day (more than enough), but in the late afternoon when my body is calling for something sweet and hot – because I drink my tea and coffee black – I make myself a cup of this. And I do it again in the evening when I curl up on the couch after I’ve put everyone to bed and can’t wait to open my book. It is so perfect in every way.

Now that I don’t have a daily commute, it’s really hard for me to find the perfect time to listen to podcasts. But last weekend I managed to listen to Anne’s interview with Kate DiCamillo and it was golden. Kate talks about her writing process, which is fascinating. If you’re at all interested in how writers get words on a page, this is an episode that you won’t want to miss! I’ve never read anything by DiCamillo – any advice on where to start?

This is another podcast that I try to get to regularly but am usually perpetually behind. But when I was scrolling through my missed episodes and saw one with the title “Tending Joy and Practicing Delight,” then I immediately tapped play. The guest was Ross Gay and he was, well, delightful!

It’s no secret that I am in love with corgis. I love their short legs and their perky ears. Don’t get me started on their bums. They are herding dogs and I could really use a herder around here. And my husband has pined over husky dogs since before I even met him. He jokingly ridicules my choice of our ideal family dog while I do the same to his. But… put ’em together and what have you got? A HORGI. What a great compromise, right?

I hope you all have a warm and wonderful weekend. Next week is Christmas, which always sneaks up on me! I’ll try to remember to breathe while I do everything last minute. You too?

  1. We are sharing that bitterly cold weather – it makes taking Sherman (our Pug) out for his morning walk a true challenge! He hates the bitter cold – even if he is bundled in the sweater I made him! I am all ready for Christmas – although I don’t think Steve is…so there might have to participate in some last minute rush shopping! Have a great weekend and stay warm!

    1. Poor Sherman (and you!)! It’s mornings like these that I’m happy that I don’t have a puppy, even though I’d love to have one the rest of the year!

I’m so glad to hear that you’re ready for Christmas! I hope Steve doesn’t have to go out too much because the stores have gotten super wacky!
