Friends, I planned to share a reading update two Fridays ago but I don’t know what I was thinking. Colton was on school vacation that week, Matthew was on his vacation last week and this month is full of doctors and dentists for everyone. May has been wacky and isn’t going to get any easier, so I’m simply checking in with a proof of life post!
First of all – thank you all for your enthusiasm about our new puppy, Dawsey! He has been so much fun and has fit right into our daily life. I’m not sure what it says about our day-to-day life when it seems like a 9 week old puppy is no major inconvenience, but there you have it. Make all the assumptions you want!
School vacation week (4/28-5/2) was gorgeous. And it was a good thing because Colton wanted to spend the whole week outside, which we basically did. It was perfect for Dawsey because he’s a big fan of chewing on sticks. The week flew by, I had no problem getting my steps in, and everyone seemed to fall asleep as soon as our heads hit our pillows.
Last week it rained the whole week. And of course, that didn’t stop us from getting outside every couple of hours anyway. It just meant significantly more mud to clean up throughout the day! When I worked at the library on Saturday it seemed like most people were sick of the rain, but you know I love a rainy day so it was 100% my kind of week. The sun came out on Sunday, which also means that bug season has begun!
The opening picture is of a bird’s egg that Dawsey found on the ground on Sunday. I found an old picture of the nest the Carolina Wrens built in our window box last summer:

The eggs look the same to me! I have no idea if the wind blew the nest down somewhere or if another bird or rodent stole the egg but it was such a surprise to find. I had to take the egg out of Dawsey’s mouth and I put it in a hanging basket in our backyard but am fairly certain it won’t hatch.
In addition to finding random eggs on the ground, I have been knitting, reading, and falling asleep in the lawn chair in the front yard. We are wrapping up all of our school curricula for this year and will begin some special summer projects that I’m still hammering out and am excited about.
And now Dawsey has woken up from his nap and it’s time to get him and these three children outside for some more play time! I am still working on that big reading update but won’t make any promises about when it will get done.
I hope your week is full of things that fill your bucket. Take good care.

So glad to hear everything is going well…even better than well. Dawsey sounds like an awesome addition to your family!

I’m delighted to hear that Dawsey has settled in well and that you’re all having a great time! I’m sure you’re exhausted every night, but that’s always a sign of a well-spent day. We’ll wait for a reading update, but I think we need more puppy pictures!
