Although I wasn’t ready for the weekend to end, I’m in a much better mental place this Monday than I was last week. The weather this weekend was chilly and windy, which made playing in the backyard extra fun for the kiddos. The warmth from our time at the firepit on Saturday evening was especially appreciated! All in all, it was a well-balanced week and a lovely weekend. So let’s look a little closer:

My current notebooking tools:
- The notebook: Hobonichi Hon A5, which is the same as the 2025 A5 Cousin but in hardcover.
- Pen: Zebra Sarasa 0.4
- Highlighter: Mild Grey Mildliner
- Dots: Washi Paper dot stickers
It was a gorgeous fall week! Our homeschooling rhythm was perfection and we’re slowly adding more afternoon tea + (mythology, poetry, philosophy, fables) each week. This week’s afternoon tea companion will be the Gilgamesh Trilogy to enrich our learning about Ancient Babylonia. History is always the foundation of our homeschooling plans and this year’s focus on ancient history is especially fun.
I knit quite a bit on my Cloudesley sweater early on but put it aside for reading mid-week. I became enthralled by The Ministry of Time and gave it all of my free moments. Maybe because it was clear how much this author loves history, maybe it was the love blossoming between our main characters, maybe it was how obvious it was that some real crazy stuff was going to happen… I don’t know. But I really enjoyed my time with this book!
Kamala had a rally in Texas on Friday night and I stayed up way too late to watch it. Did any of you see it? It was amazing and gave me so much hope for my home state. The election is in 8 days. Have you voted? Do you have plans to vote? There’s so much at stake with this election – including our very democracy. It’s frightening and I am so ready to vote next Tuesday. There’s no early voting in New Hampshire so I have to wait. That’s the hardest part!
And that was basically my week. I am still working on my book nook and trying to clean up my old sewing space. Making decisions about what to keep has been especially hard but I know I really want to pare down my sewing things and focus on creating a more bookish space for myself. I’ve been listing things on ebay and am hoping to sell as much as I can because I’m planning to use that money on a few special items for this corner. My goal is to list a couple of items a week but of course — there’s so much left to get to! I keep reminding myself that slow and steady is ideal because I will completely run out of steam if I try to do too much at once and then I’ll never be able to finish. Trying to remember the lessons from The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating.
I hope that your weekend was lovely and that the beginning of the week treats you well. Take good care!

I didn’t watch but listned to the rally and found it SO inspiring. I can’t wait to vote, either. Wishing you a wonderful week…

Thanks, Jordy. I’m glad you got to listen to the rally – what a gathering of people!

So lovely to read about your fall weekend.
I must admit I am feeling really stressed about the upcoming election. The polls are too close for comfort. I am hoping that Harris will win, but it doesn’t seem like a sure thing.

I agree – polls are too close for comfort. So I try to watch as little news as possible and try to focus on things around the house. So much anxiety!

I’m glad you enjoyed The Ministry of Time! It was a fun read. I am signed up to be a permanent vote-by-mail voter which is awesome; I voted a few weeks ago, and they send you an email confirming that they received your ballot. I kind of forgot that the election is so close, whew. I’m looking forward to seeing your book nook, it seems like a fun project.

Permanent vote by mail IS awesome! And even better that you get a confirmation when your ballot arrives – what a relief.
The book nook IS a fun project, but also overwhelming. Little by little!

P.S. The Ministry of Time is on my bookshelf. It just might be my next read.

I’ve started it and do like it. I think the set-up is a little contrived. Why was a woman assigned to live with a Victorian naval officer? But it’s not a deal-killer for me. I’ll keep reading.

We don’t really have early voting here in PA, though you can still vote by mail if you want, and this year they added “across the counter” voting, which is basically just filling in a mail ballot and handing it directly to the elections office person. I’m pretty sure my ballot got lost in the mail in 2020, so I’ve been voting in person in every election since, and that’s how I’ll be voting in this one. I’m really nervous/anxious, but I’m trying to remind myself that I am doing all I can by voting and making sure everyone I know does, too. I’m going to forward you a link to an article Mary sent me that’s helped me feel a little better.

How surprising that there’s no early voting in PA – there are so many people in the state that it would seem easier for the officials to spread them out a little bit! And what a bummer to suspect that your ballot never arrived in 2020. I did a mail-in ballot in 2020 as well and Matthew worked at the polls on election day; he texted me when my ballot was processed to let me know that it was received and fed into the counting machine!

It’s part of our history curriculum and just happened to fall during my current obsession with ancient civilizations!! More serendipity 🙂
I’m so nervous about next week but we’re focusing on what we can control: our election night meal and snackies. We haven’t decided on anything yet!

I did early voting last week and I am trying to stay optimistic as there is much at stake. I keep up with Kamala’s talks although did not listen to TX. I did listen to Michelle Obama speech and that was great. I do not know how I will sleep Tuesday night and I just pray that we will have K Harris for president!

Linda, I’m so happy that you were able to vote early! I’m also wondering about sleep on Tuesday? My husband has taken off Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night from work because of the anticipation! I think that if everyone votes, then Kamala is in excellent shape. She is working hard to get people excited about voting and I hope we can pull through for her!
