Full of Joy Friday | Week 20 in 2021

Friday is my favorite day of the week because it is all about joy here at The Cozy Burrow! I spend the whole week jotting down memories to share and always look forward to the joyful moments you share in the comments. Why? Because as soon as we start looking for joy, we starts noticing its abundance. And according to my newest favorite quote:

“You too can be carved anew by the details of your devotions.”
Mary Oliver, Long Life

Why not be devoted to joy?

+ I’ve been meaning to snip a lilac bouquet all week and Matthew did it for me on Thursday! The jar is sitting on my desk as I write this note to you. They’re my favorite spring flowers and our entire room smells like my version of Heaven.

+ I think mourning doves are my favorite birds. I love their coos, how they waddle between the puddles in our driveway, and how often it seems like they’re just looking at the sky. Matthew told me I looked like a mourning dove the other day and I decided to take that as a compliment. I think they look motherly! (But I suppose they’re really just glorified pigeons? Oh well.)

+ Despite my love of mourning doves, Bronwyn has taken to calling me Mama Owl. That seems much more fitting for a homeschooling mama than a Mama Bear, doesn’t it?

+ I had an adult conversation this week with someone other than Matthew, Colton’s case managers, my parents, and my local librarians. Mary and I FaceTimed on Tuesday to talk books! Sadly, my connection was awful and that made it difficult, but it was such a nice break for me. Most of you already know this, but she’s just as lovely live as she is on her blog. Thank you, Mary! (and because we used FaceTime, that means I still haven’t used Zoom. I’m stubbornly proud of that.)

Like always, I’d like to hear where you found joy this week! I’m planning to be back on Sunday with a poem and until then – I hope you have a weekend full of rest and rejuvenation. Take good care!

  1. I’ve been enjoying the scent of our lilacs every day when I head out on my walk or to pick kiddo up at school. I don’t think they’ll last much longer, sadly, so I’m enjoying them while I can!

I won’t push you to use Zoom, but I will say that the weekly Zoom call that Mary hosts on Sunday morning is one of the highlights of my week! My TBR list grows every single time we talk, and my reading life has gotten so much better thanks to the ladies on the call.

    1. Yes – those Sunday morning (for me it is morning) gatherings are inspirational – just in case you ever decide to come over to the Zoom side of life Katie!

  2. Mourning doves have become a bright spot for me recently, too. I used to live in an area with a fair amount of trees and all the wildlife that comes with them, but now that I’m in the middle of the city, there isn’t much. However, most mornings I can hear the doves coo. I don’t know where they are, but they’re close enough that I can hear them, and it’s a nice, calm thing to wake up to.

  3. Today we’re baling hay. It’s a busy time but the sunshine and warm temperatures feel so good! I am so tired of being chilly and cold. Happy relaxing this weekend!

  4. Love that love note!

I’ve been writing daily affirmations every morning all month. It’s making a difference in how I view the world. One of the ones I like is “I allow my life to be joyful.” I think sometimes as an anxious person I’m always waiting for the other shoe to drop, and if I feel something like joy I think, wait a minute, don’t do that, you’ll invite something bad to happen. I’m working on that! Allowing joy. I deserve to experience joy! Thanks for this reminder to seek out joyful things.

    1. You totally deserve to experience joy!! And I don’t like that so many of us have to remind ourselves that!

Daily affirmations make such a difference. I did them for a long time a couple of years ago… at the time, I felt a little silly, but was amazed that it seemed to work! I’m glad you’re picking some good ones, Laila, and that you are internalizing them!

  5. Our FaceTime was a JOY for my week, too!! and those lilacs … sigh… we don’t have lilacs here, but we do have magnolias and gardenias. My morning walks smell lovely, and that does bring me joy!
