Friends – it’s been an emotional and strange week. Do you agree? Based on what I’ve seen from everyone’s blog posts and my emails, we’re all on such a rollercoaster right now. So I’m doing what always helps me: embracing my life as it is and collecting small moments of joy.

+ Last Sunday was Colton’s 6th birthday. We’re not big on parties anyway, so Covid hasn’t changed much for us. I had to buy his cake at the grocery store because our oven is broken, but it was a luxurious treat for us! He had his perfect day – nearly all day outside, chicken quesadilla from Taco Bell, and plenty of cake frosting. My work was simple!

+ We’re wrapping up our 30th week of Blackberry Bluff School! I can’t believe it, honestly. You can see Bryce and Bronwyn hard at work in the picture above… you can also see our painted walls and fresh flooring! Matthew has new trim that he’s still trying to get measured and cut, so he tacked back the old trim for now. The room isn’t finished, but we’re getting there. And now – only two more rooms to go. Whew!

+ We spotted our first asparagus on Wednesday! A quick look at my 5 Year Journal tells me that we first saw asparagus growing on May 3 last year, so we’re about two weeks ahead this year. I hope that’s the case for everything in our garden this year.

+ We had an amazing thunderstorm on Wednesday evening. Thunderstorms are one of the things I miss about living in Texas – they happen all of the time down there, but are relatively rare here in New Hampshire.

+ And after Wednesday’s thunderstorm, we had a day full of snow showers on Thursday. We’ve been spoiled by spring-like weather, so it was a little too cold for us to spend much time outside. But that’s okay — we stayed out for about half an hour and checked on our flowers and garden.

I’m looking forward to heading into the weekend and I hope to be back on Sunday to share a poem. May we all have a weekend full of rest and rejuvenation. Take good care!

And as always – I’d love to hear where you’ve been finding joy lately!

  1. You know, marking a birthday with cheese and frosting sounds pretty amazing to me! Glad to hear it was a great day for Colton.

It has been quite a roller-coaster week, hasn’t it? I’d say the high spots for me this week were the verdict on Tuesday and the good results on my repeat mammogram yesterday. And of course I have the day off today to spend with my kiddo — definitely the best way to finish up the week!

  3. Happy 6th birthday to your lovely boy. Floor is looking Good. Wonderful to enjoy the Spring weather. Joy for me was a lovely walk , clean bill of health from the dentist, and a delicious homemade soup for lunch.

  4. Happy birthday to Colton! Glad he got a yummy cake and chicken quesadilla! 🙂 I love your new floors.

Joy for me lately is in deciding to have fresh flowers in the house on the kitchen table. I’ve been buying flowers once a week or so from the grocery store and it really has made me happy to look at them. The cheapest bouquets are still lovely and bright.

    1. Thanks, Laila!! And fresh flowers are PURE joy and luxury, even the inexpensive ones!! I’m so glad you made the decision to go for it – they make such a difference. (Sadly, fresh flowers aren’t really possible in my house. Colton loves ripping up the petals and will do almost anything to access them once he realizes they’re around!!)

  5. Colton’s birthday sounds delightful and congratulations on ALL THAT SCHOOL! Joy for me this week has been spending time with Holly, and talking with Sara about Her Plans (hopefully I’ll be able to share more about that on my blog soon!)
