A Look Into Our Notebooks – Week 34 of 2020

Can I take a minute to just focus on the fact that we’ve finished the 34th week of the year? How? When? Where did it all go? And that’s one of the things that I love about blogging — I might think that I’ve done nothing, but I know better. Thanks to my habit tracker, currently in my Hobonichi Weeks, I keep up with my daily/weekly tasks, the habits I’m developing, and my writing time. On the other side of the spread, I write down a few memories from the day. It’s been a lovely practice and I can’t wait to share last week’s pages with you.

I gave myself a bit of a break last week. It was our last week before officially starting school, so I just ignored some of the things on my task list! Like everyone’s sheets? We can all go a week without having our sheets washed. Everyone survived, smelled fine, and I can get back on track with that again this week!

We’re in that weird in-between weather season – some days feel just like fall! And others feel like we’re in the pits of summer. But I’ve got my eye on the fall – it’s coming! It was hard to track the daily weather this week because it would be nice and sunny all day, then a few clouds would roll in with a quick thunderstorm, and then the clouds would be gone and it would sunny again. Is that partly cloudy with rain? Even if the clouds were only around for an hour? Ahhh— another downfall of only using pictures to document something as complicated as the weather!

I only got takeout once last week, which was much better than the week before! But I didn’t meal plan or go grocery shopping like I said I would, so I’m not sure how I’m going to feed us all this week. So let’s hope that I can pull it together today and come up with a plan!

Now it’s your turn! I’d love to see or read about your notebooks. This is meant to be a source of inspiration and a chance to think a bit more deeply about the benefits you get from your notebooks. If you’ve written a blog post about them recently, please share a link in the link up below! It will be open all week until we gather again on Monday.

  1. I love that my house (with only two people in it, for heaven’s sake) is not the only house that occasionally misses washing the sheets each week. I really need to get my act together and plan my posting to join you. I think it would help me be more accountable during the week!

    1. Before I was a stay at home mom, we went many, many weeks between washes!! I don’t think we’re the only ones who occasionally misses a week!

No pressure to join the link up, but I agree that blogging about my notebooks and my plans with them gives me a bit of gentle accountability. Join me when you’re ready!

  2. I think I’ve gotten a lot less uptight about laundry in general in recent years. I used to have some weird rule where I HAD to do all the laundry on the weekend — which of course meant that I spent the whole weekend doing laundry! My husband managed to persuade me that that was nuts and we could just do laundry whenever we need to. I still have some laundry (sheets and towels) that I do on the weekend because that’s when I clean the bathroom and change the sheets, but even those loads can wait if they need to. And the best part of being home all day is that I can throw in a load any time!

I think kiddo and I are going to spend some of our week off together doing some research to come up with new meal ideas. We are both sick of the same things we always make, but with as picky as she is, it’s hard to introduce new things. I’d like to find some things that she’ll not only eat but can also help to make because she really enjoys helping in the kitchen!

    1. Isn’t it funny how we can get certain things in our heads and not budge from them? I used to think that the bathrooms should only be cleaned on the weekends (because, of course, that’s when I was at home for the longest period of time when I was working). Once I started staying home, like you, I realized that things could be done at any point during the week! Now it’s been hard to shift back to doing ANY chores on the weekends, because I’ve started to think of those days as my time off “from work.” Ha!

Finding new meal ideas this week is a great idea! I love how you’re including Rainbow in that process… I hope it makes a huge difference when you return to work!

  3. The weather is the same here!!! Autumn is on its way and I am SO HYPED about it!!! WOOT!! (We wash the sheets every other week, by the way, except in summer. It’s alright).

To be honest, I am really looking forward to your first week of school – I know there is still time, but already: Good luck, and I hope it will be great for Bear and you! 🙂

  4. The weather where I am at is nuts. We had one day last week when it was pushing 100 degrees, bright and sunny out side yet still spitting rain. Not even sure how I would manage to track that one if I were doing so. And I too, am ready for fall. I need a break from the scorching heat to just a mild inconvenient heat.

    1. I am so glad I don’t live in in the South or the Southwest! I grew up in Texas and there were so many 100+ degree days (in a row!) that it was just awful. I hope your fall is cooler than average!

  5. I actually bought a second set of sheets for those weeks when I don’t get to the laundry. And our weather is wobbly. Start the day with long sleeves and a sweater and end the day with a tank top and shorts. Good thing I don’t have to leave the house!

    1. I love not leaving the house!!

We also have a second set of sheets for everyone, but I HATE the idea of folding the sheets when they come out of the dryer. I’d much rather just put them straight on the bed than try to neatly fold them and put them away somewhere. !!

  6. It’s fun to have a little look inside your notebook! I really like the layout of this one, with the narrow pages. The thing about journalling is that I love doing it and being creative with it, but somehow I always fall off doing it daily. Do you have any tips for keeping up with it? And is there a specific time during the day you sit down and journal?

    1. Thanks Nikki! This layout is excellent and if you wanted to try it for a few weeks, here’s a link to a version that’s not dated and you can start using it anytime: https://amzn.to/2EtJzKi It could be a less expensive way to play with the format and find out if it’s a good fit for you.

I used to struggle with daily journaling and habit tracking, too. When I write in my journal (or write morning pages), I write them very early in the morning. With the habit tracker you can see in this post, I write in it throughout the day.

Here’s a recent post that I wrote with tips for daily journaling: https://katiegilley.com/2020/07/23/3-tips-for-daily-journaling/

And here’s a recent post that I wrote ways to get started in your journal when you have no idea what to write about: https://katiegilley.com/2020/07/30/3-topics-to-make-writing-in-your-journal-easier/#more-10232

I write about my journals often! This link should take you to all of my posts about writing in my notebooks: https://amzn.to/2EtJzKi

But the biggest motivator for me has been to blog about my journals every Monday. Somehow I’ve managed to stick to a blogging routine and I know that I’m going to share my journals every Monday — so I better use them or I won’t have anything to publish!!

      Enjoy your notebooks 🙂

      1. Thanks for all the great tips and resources 🙂 I hope someday I’ll be able to stick to it!

  7. Like Kat, I would love to get myself together to share notebook pages on Mondays … maybe next month?! With just two of us, meal planning isn’t really much of A Thing (especially since neither of us minds eating the same thing, or variations on a salad, for days), but I LOVE The Lazy Genius’ (one of my favorite podcasts) take on Meal Planning. If I had a house with three kids – like you both do! – I would for sure be all into it. Have you tried it?

    1. No worries, Mary! Join when you’re ready and it makes sense for you. I know many of you already have a blogging rhythm and another link up might not fit into it 🙂

I’m not familiar with The Lazy Genius’ meal planning! I’ll look into it! Thank for the recommendation 🙂
