Happy Fall! Yesterday was the Autumnal Equinox so we can officially say the season has begun. I am happy to share that the unrelenting sunshine of the last few weeks finally relented and we had a day full of clouds on Friday. Can you can imagine my happiness? And the weekend was perfect: a light rain nearly all day on Saturday and partly cloudy on Sunday.
Mondays are an opportunity for us to reflect on the previous week and think about everything that went right. I overcame quite a bit of fear last week and am delighted to add that particular achievement to my list today!

Notebooking tools:
- The notebook: Hobonichi Hon A5, which is the same as the 2025 A5 Cousin but in hardcover.
- Pen: Zebra Sarasa 0.4
- Highlighter: Mild Grey Mildliner
- Dots: Washi Paper dot stickers
We won’t dwell on what I didn’t do this week, but let’s talk about what went RIGHT:
- It rained on Saturday! Humans have no control over the day-to-day weather so maybe that doesn’t belong on this list, but it definitely helped.
- I filmed two YouTube videos! Way out of my comfort zone and super scary but something that has been in my thoughts for a long time and is scratching the itch I thought Substack would take care of. YouTube has proven to be much easier. Just turn on the camera on my computer and yack away.
- Two resistance workouts and three spinning sessions.
- Journaling completed every day.
- So much time outside! I’m looking forward to reading outside this week.
- Mopped last night (just in time to check it off the list!) and it’s wonderful to wake up on a Monday morning with clean floors.
- We also used the fire pit last night! The kids love it and so do we.
- Less black and white thinking about my time. My brain blocks off certain times for certain activities and I have a hard time not following those “rules.” I’m challenging those rules little by little and finally getting somewhere.
One of my biggest challenges over the last year has been Colton’s sleep schedule, but lately it seems like he’s typically waking up between 5 and 5:30 (despite the 3:30 and two 4:30 wake ups last week). Knowing that there’s a 50+% chance of having a quiet house until 5am has been a good motivator for me in the mornings and I’ve gotten better about just bringing out my computer and working amidst his chaos. Who knows what will happen when the time changes again soon? But we’re in a workable place right now.
This week’s forecast?

Highs in the 60s, lows in the 40s. We’re getting there, friends. Such a beautiful sight!
This week won’t be a typical one for us because Matthew is on vacation! Colton is still going to school and we’re having our homeschool every day, but it will be so nice to lean on him a little more in the evenings. I have ideas for blog posts and YouTube videos, want to exercise every day, have a library trip planned with Bryce and Bronwyn, want to visit an apple orchard to collect the goodies needed to bake a pie, and it’s fair season. Expect my moka pot to be working overtime to help me keep up with it all!
How about you? How was your weekend? How did last week go for you? I hope you’ll share something that went right in the comments. Or share what went wrong and we can talk about it. I know how it feels when it seems like nothing is going right — you’re not alone.
I hope Monday treats you well. Take good care!

Great time on Saturday knitting and chatting in a group, and Sunday was Open Studios when you can stroll into participants work spaces and see what they are doing

Fall is always a glorious time with trips to orchards and other delights, including pie. Enjoy your week with your husband home. Last weekend, my youngest daughter and her husband were supposed to join us for birthday celebrations but couldn’t because of car troubles. That was a wee bit disappointing but we still had a fun weekend that included movies and a meal at a Chinese restaurant.

I’m so sorry your daughter and son in law weren’t able to make it, but movies and Chinese food sounds like a great way to celebrate! ❤️

We had our last swim in our pool of the season on Saturday, the overnight temps plummeted that night and we woke to frost this morning…I am ready for fall. I live in NW Ontario and the leaves are changing colour.

You have such a long cold season, so I’m sure it was bittersweet to have that last swim!

I had mixed feelings as I turned the page from summer to autumn on Sunday, but I was happy that our weather has been leaning in on warm (but not too hot) summer days. We have some much needed rain in the forecast this week and I am hoping we actually get some! (It can be iffy in Pittsburgh that forecast rain actually falls)
Happy Monday, Katie… I hope this week is amazing!

I hope you get that rain, Kat. I know everything is so dry up here right now. Enjoy your week!

Happy Fall! For me, fall starts on Sept 1 (winter – Dec 1; spring – Mar 1; summer – Jun 1). So I’m happy to see the rest of this hemisphere celebrate with me! Congrats on getting out of your comfort zone and doing YouTube videos! I will have to check them out! I made YouTube videos a few years ago, it’s way easier than you think! Great aesthetically pleasing post, as always!

Today’s the first day in a long time that has actually felt a bit like fall is coming — it’s been overcast with off and on sprinkles. I had a productive weekend in terms of reading and crafting, which is just what I what I wanted. I finished three books!

Wow! Congratulations on finishing three books – what a great feeling. I hope the fall-ish-like weather sticks around for you… and you can wear your wool socks soon!

This sounds like such a wonderful and productive week! I am enjoying some cooler and rainier weather, too. I enjoyed this summer so much, but I suppose I am slowly getting ready to let go and move on to cooler weather!

What went right – I cleaned off the kitchen table and reorganized my bookshelf! I tried a new recipe and everyone liked it. I also just enjoyed getting to spend time with my husband and son. Time if flying by quickly, so I’m trying to soak up us being together. Before you know it my son will be 18 and going to college. (Five years, but still. Five years goes by fast!)

There is nothing better than finding a new go-to recipe! And hurrah for having time to clean and reorganize, AND spent time with your family. And you’re right – 5 years is going to pass by way too quickly!

Decades ago – and I do mean decades, I had a sour dough starter and would, during my lunch hour, come home and give it a stir or two so that when I returned home for the day, I could make sour dough bread. What a treat and thanks for reminding me. I don’t bake bread any more -sigh- but I did enjoy that little trip down memory lane. Thanks and do enjoy your bread. Yum!
Cheers~

That’s such a fun image, Honoré! Thank you for sharing it! I can just see you leaving the library throughout the day to stir your dough – I love it!

YAY for so many good things and I see those Stretch & Folds – yay for BREAD! for me, too! the loaf I baked on Saturday morning had the most sourdough flavor so far … it was about 40 hours in the fridge and I’m going to have to wait for “real fall” (like you have this week) to let it sit there 48 hours. Maybe next month?!

YES! You inspired me to get a batch going with your post last week 🙂 I also put mine in the fridge to ferment but it wasn’t moving fast enough for my impatient self so I took it out and put it on a heating pad the next morning, ha. But I should experiment with letting it stay in the fridge for longer. Maybe that would help some of my under-fermenting issues? Anyway, after several years of playing with sourdough I am STILL in search of the perfect loaf. I like the challenge!

I like the idea of focusing on what went right. Like you, I tend to be rather black and white about my schedule and chores etc. I need to be a little more flexible. I hope the week was enjoyable for you and your family. Life kept me away from blogs and blogging last week so I am now catching up. It’s always delightful to read your posts.
