I was hoping to be back today with a finished sock and a sweater with its arms separated but things didn’t work out that way. Instead, I’m here to share what we watched last week while Matthew was on vacation. He and I don’t typically get to watch much together during the week because of his work schedule and I usually turn off the TV when I’m alone in the evenings. So it was a fun change to cuddle up on the couch with some popcorn and our remote control. (and maybe a fair amount of lemonade spiked with bourbon.)

It took us several days, but Matthew and I managed to watch Jaws 1 and 2. Neither of us had seen either one before so these movies were a lot of fun, especially given that marine life has finally decided to take its revenge on humans. I have to say that I really enjoyed the 70s outfits and hope those come back around really soon! I’m sure you’ve all seen these movies and don’t need to be convinced one way or the other, but! they are perfect for the summer and I’m really glad we finally watched them.
I think there are four Jaws movies? Maybe we’ll try 3 and 4 on Matthew’s summer vacation next year.

We started watching Shiny Happy People on Amazon Prime. This is a documentary about the Duggar family and interviews one of their older daughters, Jill, along with other survivors of the religion her family follows. It is fascinating but very disturbing. We’ve only watched two episodes and I’m going to have to go very slowly with this one – one episode at a time is enough to chew on!
The second episode definitely put a bad light on homeschooling. Please know that our homeschooling curricula is very different than what’s portrayed in this documentary!

We finished the fourth season of Yellowstone. Every episode of this series is compelling and completely draws me in, despite my inclination to dislike the show. I can’t help it!
And still – we’ve decided to push pause on Yellowstone for now and start the fifth season after all of the episodes are released (only the first half is available to stream right now, the second half is currently being filmed). You might remember that I only started watching this series because I wanted to watch the prequel with Tim McGraw and then I got hooked on this story. So 1883 will probably become the next show we watch on the weekends and I am very excited!
And looking back at all of this TV time, I can’t help but wonder why I didn’t pick up my knitting??! I’ve fallen out of this practice over the last couple of years. I know it’s because I am so exhausted by the time I sink into the couch every night and the thought of moving my body, even just to knit, is too much! So that’s okay – that idleness was an important part of my winding down process last week.
And all of this TV time has meant less time for reading but I’ll still be back on Wednesday with a report on what I’ve read over the last two weeks. It’s not much but it was very, very good!
I hope your week starts out well and I’ll see you soon!

Important to have time for rest and relaxation. It refreshes the spirit. I remember screaming through Jaws at the cinema with a group of teenage friends. So much fun. I, too, have been fascinated by the Duggars, but I have never watched the show. And I have no doubt that your homeschooling is nothing like theirs. I’ve never seen Yellowstone. Good to learn that you like it.

Screaming through Jaws must be a great memory! 😉 It was such a fun movie to watch on our vacation. And I was surprised by how much I liked Yellowstone – it is so compelling!

Not a week goes by when I don’t quote a line from Jaws. Absolutely iconic!

Count me in the never watched Yellowstone camp… and I have avoided Happy Shiny People as well. It was a good weekend to stay in and watch TV. (It rained here most of the weekend.) and I began working my way through Endeavor!
Happy Monday!

Big fan of Endeavor! Happy Shiny People was not easy to watch but it helped me see some things I never really understood. Sadly, I knew too many of the families who followed that homeschool approach – heartbreaking. I am also happy to know others who are doing homeschool your way which is heart lifting. I have been watching a lot of PBS last week and I have a sock project next to my chair at all times.

That’s two of you who are big fans of Endeavor! I should add it to my TBW 🙂 I’m glad to hear that Shiny Happy People was a useful show for you. It’s definitely hard to watch.

I’ve never seen any of the Jaws movies either…..so you’re not alone. 🙂
I keep hearing how good Yellowstone and the series that go along with it are. I think maybe my hubby and I might need to give them a try for our next shows we watch together. He and I watch shows together some nights of the week. We recently finished Manifest and are looking for another show to watch.
Earlier this year I listened to an audiobook from one of the Duggar girls about her faith and family. I wasn’t aware there was a docuseries on Prime. I may try the first episode of that tonight.

I think Yellowstone is a great show to watch with your husband, Karen! I’m a big fan of Westerns and I’ve been enjoying this story a lot. Let me know if you decide to watch the Duggar documentary!

I haven’t seen any of these! I’ve heard bits and pieces about the Duggar family but don’t really know much about them.

The Duggars are a super religious family here in the US. I think they have something like 19 or 20 kids? And they were portrayed as being a picture perfect vision of a family on their reality show. But secrets began to leak out several years ago that told a different story. And it is so sad!

I’ve never seen any of the Jaws movies! I’m sure they’re a little too campy now to be truly scary, but I’ve just never felt any desire to see that kind of movie. I do plan on watching the Duggar documentary, though. I’m sure their kind of homeschooling is not at all like what you do, so you have nothing to worry about as far as me judging you (I already know you do a phenomenal job). I have heard Yellowstone is great but haven’t seen any of it. I’ve realized that most of what I watch is on PBS, so I suppose that’s a good thing!

Sarah – the Jaws movies are absolutely not scary. You can see the shark coming from a mile away! I think they’re just more of a cultural phenomena at this point and I’m so glad that I finally watched the first two. And watching a lot of PBS is a VERY good thing! The only time I really watch TV is when Matthew is home and he doesn’t enjoy Masterpiece shows, so I rarely watch any of them anymore. Boo.

Marc is rewatching Yellowstone along with (both?) the prequels and loving it still. It got a bit too violent for me a few years back. We are currently watching The Bear season 2 and wow, it’s fantastic. Marc reports that a new season of Grantchester started last night and I can’t wait to watch it. (and I appreciate you “just watching” some nights – I’m sure it’s a welcome break for your whole body to just … sink into the couch and the show!)

Yes – Yellowstone is VERY violent. I don’t know why I enjoy it so much… but I do! I haven’t seen any of The Bear but I’ve heard great things about it!

Lovely for you and your partner to sit and enjoy TV together. I don’t use paid for TV so haven’t heard of most of the programmes you mention. However I of course have watched Jaws and read the novel. If you enjoyed it then try reading or watching the play Enemy of the People by Ibsen.

I didn’t know there was a Jaws novel – thank you for the recommendations!
