Merry Christmas, my sweet friends! This is the last Friday of the year and I couldn’t skip today’s cozy post despite the holiday. Each Friday I gather up joyful memories from the week and share them here.

The kids are still snuggly sleeping this morning, thankfully. It’s been a busy week – cooking, cleaning, wrapping, Christmas movies. Last night, the tiny little voice in my head started whispering that I hadn’t done enough to make the season special, that it’s almost over and I’ve ruined it all. But of course, there’s always next year to try to get it right. So I decided to turn on the Ghostbusters marathon on BBC America and ignore that voice.
Since having children, Christmas has become a difficult day. Trying to keep everyone happy and fed, managing nonsensical meltdowns, keeping the day moving, cleaning up about a bazillion messes, directing traffic. It’s a day of work and not a ton of joy for me, frankly. But I’m looking forward to tonight because my new little ritual is to watch The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society on Netflix after the kids get tucked into their beds. That movie is totally for me: it’s WWII, it’s cozy, there are typewriters and flowers and notebooks and tea and knitted sweaters. So when things become overwhelming today, I’m going to close my eyes, picture myself on the couch with hot cocoa and chocolate pie, and watching the movie. There is joy!
I hope you all have a wonderful and cozy weekend, whether or not you celebrate Christmas. I’ll plan to be back here on Monday morning with a look into my notebook. I hope you all have a peaceful and safe weekend!

Have a Happy Christmas with your family. Children have lower expectations than adults and manage to have a happy time. I’m sure they’re excited to have your husband home from work for a long weekend. I love the Guernsey Island book, especially since we milk Guernsey cows which of course originated on the isle. Enjoy your day, enjoy your quiet time this evening and of course, happy stitching!

Thanks Jordy! It was so nice to finally sit down and the movie was perfect 🙂 The day was very good… until the late afternoon. But we all made it through and I’m looking forward to some (frigid) outside time today! I hope your day was wonderful 🙂

I have to admit that I’m a little jealous of all the snow! It looks fantastic!! (the ginger bread looks great, too). I’m sure that the kids are having a fantastic time, seriously. You’re doing great! And I hope you had a wonderful time with the movie!! (I still have to watch that one, I finally bit the bullet and watched “Die Hard” for the FIRST TIME EVER yesterday! Still have about half an hour to go. 😉 ).

The snow was SO lovely. But it rained all day yesterday and it’s mostly all melted away now, boo. I still haven’t watched Die Hard all the way through.. I always fall asleep, which is totally ridiculous because it’s an action-packed movie.

Thank you, Cathy! I guess there always needs to be at least one Grinch every year (me!). But the day was really good overall… and the movie put it over the top!

Christmas Day does set up some impossible expectations, doesn’t it? add in some sugar and tired humans and well … I hope you found joy in spite of all that! (and your Guernsey Literary tradition is inspired. I love that movie!)

Guernsey was exactly what I needed that night – and there were moments that I chanted Guernsey, Guernsey, Guernsey to help me get through the difficulties that we had later in the day!! I was so happy to read that your Christmas was lovely, Mary (although I haven’t had a chance to comment yet)!
