Fridays are for collecting little moments of joy throughout the week. Typically I share a few pictures, but this is the second week in a row in which I have none! I’ll try to break this trending habit next week and keep my phone nearby to snap the little moments to share here.
I was most excited when I learned that the 4th season of The Crown will be released this Sunday! The trailer looks amazing – Gillian Anderson as Thatcher! Look how perfect. I could fill this paragraph with exclamation points, but I’ll try to hold back. I’ve been preparing for this release by catching up on The Windsors: Inside the Royal Dynasty. CNN aired this series over the (?)summer and I recorded it and finally finished it last night. I also caught Charles & Di: The Truth Behind Their Wedding on PBS last week, which was perfect timing for the 4th season of The Crown. I’m so happy to feed my obsession with the historical significance of the British royal family right now!
We’re finishing up the eleventh week of Blackberry Bluff School. We have one more week before Thanksgiving break – which is totally shocking to me. After the disaster (of my own making) of schooling last week, it’s been a relief to fall back into a routine that’s engaged all of us and Bear quickly remembered my expectations of him. I think we’ve all recovered nicely.
Yesterday I got a mini-training on Bug’s assistive communication device, so he can finally start bringing it home and using it here. They were waiting to make sure he understood the basics of using it while at the treatment center and he’s picking it up like a pro – I cried when they told me everything he’s been able to do with it. And he’s been vocalizing more, which means that we’re potentially closer to him speaking words. It’s been a hard 5.5 years — and seeing him sit at the table with his device and ask for balloons to play with was amazing. Joy is an understatement.
I was hoping to share a progress shot of my little sewing spot in the basement, but we’re not quite there yet. Perhaps next Friday? I’ve been stealing 10-15 minutes a day and making bit of progress on my Scrappy Crossroads quilt. I’ll have a finished project to share with you all in no time!
And speaking of stitching – I’ve discovered Floss Tube. I subscribe to Lori Holt’s YouTube channel and she did a Floss Tube video, which was a rabbit hole beyond compare. Which is strange because despite a few WIPs, I wouldn’t even call myself a cross stitcher. But I am really enjoying watching these youtube videos with my headphones while Bear watches a little television in the evenings before bed. And well, of course I’m eying a few patterns, but remain determined to finish my Plump Farmer’s Wife before starting anything else.
That’s it from me this week. I might be back on Sunday with a poem, but I’m not sure. I definitely plan to be here on Monday! I hope you find that your weekend is restorative and that you and your family stays safe and well.
Bumps in the road with homeschooling are to be expected, been there, done that. I’m so glad this week went well. Another week then you can have a nice break. Have a calm, quiet, peaceful weekend!

I am so happy to hear of Bug’s progress. Those communication devices are so amazing! I can remember that my little brother had a “friend” (basically a kid he got together with because the babysitters were friends) when he was really little who was autistic and entirely nonverbal, and I wonder how much his life could have been improved if those devices had been around back in the late ’80s.
So excited for the new season of the Crown!

Thanks Juliann!! And thank you for spending so many years in education. We’re making progress because of people like you — I don’t know where we’d be without advocates helping us along the way.
Enjoy The Crown! I’m so super excited.

Oh my goodness, wonderful news about your little Bug- brought tears to my eyes. I think Gillian Anderson is a brilliant actress, by far the best Miss Haversham in Great Expectations.

How wonderful about Bug!
I keep meaning to watch more of The Crown but TV time for “mature” shows is hard to come by and by the time my son’s in bed I’m too tired to watch TV! But I will catch up on it eventually.

LAILA! I’ve missed you! I’m so glad to see you’re well.
Thanks for your kind words about Bug. We’re very excited! I totally get being too tired to watch TV at night… by the time we’re watching television for ourselves, I’m apt to fall asleep and miss the entire episode. So we usually aim for just one or two episodes a night and only on the weekends, because that’s when Matthew and I are at home together. We don’t get to binge shows anymore and that’s okay — it’s much more enjoyable this way, I think π

oh my. I almost didn’t even make it past the part about Bug’s new device. I can’t even imagine the change it will make for y’all when he can talk. I originally typed that word in quotes and then erased them, and I realize I am so ignorant about the challenges you’re facing … I’m sorry. And … I can learn … and I can celebrate with y’all. also, I am beyond excited for The Crown’s latest season. I see you’ve marked my favorite Royal Biography https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40605956-elizabeth-the-queen To Read. Katie – it’s so good!

No worries, Mary. We feel like we’re navigating new terrain every day too – every day is different and brings its own challenges AND joys. Thanks for all of your kind words. ALSO – that Queen Elizabeth book is one of the first books I bought on Kindle and I have no idea why I haven’t read it yet!
