Friday Cozies – Week 40 of 2020

We are headed into the weekend and today I’m sharing just a few pictures from the week — mostly of the kids playing in the dirt.

On Monday afternoon I got a call from Bug’s treatment center: he’d thrown up and they asked me to pick him up for the day. I rushed there and the director came out to tell me that, due to COVID regulations, he’d have to stay home for 14 days. I was shocked, but would rather be safe than sorry, so we’ve had a very relaxed week. We’ve done very little Blackberry Bluff School because it’s really challenging to manage Bug while trying to do anything else. I keep telling myself that this happens when homeschooling and it’s okay to have this interrupted week. 1) Kids get sick and miss regular school. 2) Our school year is 6 weeks longer than the traditional school year, which gives us lots of cushion. We are okay. And don’t worry about Bug – he’s fine! No fever, no vomiting, no cough, no other symptoms. I suppose we could have gotten him tested again, but his test cost us $300 out of pocket because our health insurance is the absolute worst. My husband’s test also cost $300 out of pocket, so that weekend ended up being $600 in unexpected medical costs for us! So we decided not to take him and get tested this time. We’ll spend these 14 days playing instead!

As I was putting away the chickens last night, I spotted another bunny! This one also looks domesticated. You might remember that we spotted our first loose domesticated bunny in the spring. That’s John Harry Jack – I still have him in a pen and he’s happy as a clam. We spotted the second bunny, Percy, this summer. I first spotted him or her on July 18 and Percy is still visiting – my last spotting was on September 25 (yes, I track my bunny sightings in my 5 year journal). And now here’s a new one! This one is fawn colored, a bit fluffy, and I want to love it and hug it and call it George.

My blog post is a little late this morning, because Matthew woke me up when he got home from work to let me know that the news about POTUS and FLOTUS. Wow, is all I’ll allow myself to say right now. Wow. Not unexpected given his dismissal of his own administration’s advice on keeping oneself and others safe, but still. Wow.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions on our basement conundrum yesterday! I suspect that many of you are right – we aren’t going to be able to utilize those shelves given how specific they are. It hadn’t occurred to me to offer them to a collector! I think for now, I’m going to have to get used to the idea of pushing things up against those walls so that I can utilize other wall space available.

It’s supposed to rain all day here. I usually love rainy days, but I’m sort of dreading it today. It’s hard to keep Bug busy and safe indoors, so I’ll be on my toes the whole time! I’m hoping for a weekend full of sunshine and playtime. I hope the same for you.
