Friday Cozies – Week 36 of 2020

On Fridays I share pictures from the week. I’ve been working hard to take more pictures of our lives together and I share them on the blog to stay accountable to that goal. This week’s pictures: we’re still obsessed with caterpillars, I’m slowly learning more about botany, and the angle of the sun is definitely shifting!

Thanks to Torchlight Curriculum, we’re currently studying ancient civilizations. This includes learning about children living during the last Ice Age and it’s really making me want to return to the Earth’s Children series! I read the first three books in the summer of 2006 after I graduated from college. I stopped because that was a LOT at once but I’m so ready to return. While reading those books, I was awestruck by evolution for the first time. I was amazed by the research and scientific evidence that Jean M. Auel used throughout her novels. Those books made me fall in love with the journey that we’ve taken as homo sapiens. (Funny thing: Bear always introduces himself to caterpillars when we find them outside. Hello, Mr. Caterpillar. My name is Bryce. I am a homo sapien.)

I think I’d like to listen to the next novel on audio rather than commit to the behemoth in print form, so I’ll have to wait for my next audible credit to arrive on the 9th. It’s too bad that Audible won’t give you an advanced payment for those credits! (I know I can buy 3 more for $35.99, but… I won’t.)

Here’s another thing that comes to mind when I think about The Earth’s Children series. I grew up in a small town in SouthEast Texas where we went to school with the same people from Kindergarten through High School. One of my classmates, Alisha, was always in all of my classes with me. After high school, I ran away and practically severed all contact with all of my classmates and I later learned that Alisha had died in a car accident. Out of curiosity, I found her facebook page and saw that she also loved the Earth’s Children series and couldn’t wait for the new book to come out. She died just a couple of years before the sixth book was published. And for some reason, that made me so sad! And now I feel like I should finish the series for her.

And that was very sad and now I’m crying on a Friday morning, so we shall move on to happier things.

Yesterday, Bear said Blackberry Bluff School [the name of our homeschool] is just like the library except we don’t have to be quiet! Anytime my home is compared to a library, I am one happy gal! We’ll just ignore the fact that he followed that sentence up with, What would happen if I threw up in a leaf pile?

I’ve decided on my new Friday night television activity! I had been watching Home Fires, but that ended in a spectacular cliff-hanger sort of way. While trying to decide what I’d watch next, someone on IG posted a picture of their Luke’s Diner candle (which smells like coffee and donuts). I knew then that a re-watch of the Gilmore Girls series would be mandatory, especially since it’s nearly fall! And the bonus? It will take me multiple years to make my way through the entire series by only watching one episode a week. There are 157 episodes: 157/52= just over 3 years! That will keep me busy for a while! And the good thing is that I know there is NO cliffhanger. It’s comfort watching at its best. (I might have started watching one episode while folding the laundry this week. And I might have laughed and laughed while watching it. That’s a good sign.)

I think that’s all I have today. I might be back on Sunday with a poem if I find one, but I’ll definitely plan on being back here on Monday! I hope you all have a lovely weekend – stay safe!
