A Look In Our Notebooks – Week 32 of 2020

Good morning, friends. Each Monday I spend my blogging time looking back at the previous week’s spread in my Hobonichi Weeks. I love the versatility of the Weeks and find its format to be perfect for tracking all sorts of things in my life. Currently, I track my daily/weekly tasks, the habits I’m working on, and my writing time. I use the left side of the spread to write a few sentences about each day. My current long term goal is to transition to a more plant based diet and I’m using my Weeks to track mini goals along the way.

First of all – my journaling and step streaks are still going. And I did a much better job of scattering my household chores throughout the week, rather than waiting until Sunday to do everything like I did the week before. It helped a lot that it wasn’t quite as hot and muggy last week! (Weather matters)

This was the second week in a row that I didn’t get takeout or fast food. Two weeks is quite the accomplishment for me! We’ve had two trips to the local farm and our garden is starting to produce tomatoes rapidly, so that has definitely helped quell my interest in anything else. This week’s goal is the same: to prepare my own food and not order takeout or fast food. I’d really like to get a solid month of this under my belt before moving on to the next stage of my plan (which hasn’t been developed yet!). I’m still working on collecting an arsenal of easy and quick meals that I can lean on when things go haywire and preparing food is the last thing I want to do — which is most of the time.

On a slightly more personal note, we had a Covid scare this weekend. Bug got off the bus from his treatment center on Friday afternoon with a high fever, cough, and runny nose. This set off quite the chain reaction – Matt wasn’t able to go into work that night until we could confirm that it wasn’t covid via lab tests. Matt got tested on Friday night and we took Bug in to get tested on Saturday morning after I made a ton of phone calls to explain our situation (severely autistic child who is going to resist). Everyone was very kind and had lots of ideas about how to make the testing easier for all of us. The doctor was kind enough to come outside to our van, crawl in the back, and swab him while he was still in his car seat. She was a pro and even got Bug to open his mouth! We were expecting to wait at least a week for the results, but they both came back on Sunday: no Covid detected! Phew! We were lucky to get the results so quickly and that this happened over the weekend. This meant only one night of missed work for Matt and no missed days of treatment for Bug (but I’m still waiting to hear back from his center to confirm whether he’s actually all clear!).

Now I’d like to invite you to share a recent blog post about your own notebooks. Diary-style, bullet journal, art journal, everything is welcome! If your notebooks are intensely personal, then don’t worry about sharing pictures. I’d love to learn about your process for journaling and why you return to it day after day. This is meant to be a place of encouragement and an opportunity to think about all of the benefits your notebooks bring to your life. This link up will remain open until next Monday, which is when we’ll do it all again!

  1. What a scare and what a relief for you all. Woke early this morning, wrote in my journal, found my art journal, and tackled something from the to do list, that’s been there for a few weeks. Then the sun came out and it’s hot again. Trying very hard to get through August, which is my least favourite month of the year.

    1. August is my least favorite month, too. I’m trying to stay focused on the tomatoes and butterflies!

I’m glad you spent some time with your journals this morning! And yes – we are relieved that there’s no covid here!! Have a great week!

    1. Thanks Sarah! It was pretty scary, but I was thankful for everyone’s kindness and professionalism. And that the results came back so quickly!!

  2. So glad to hear that the tests came back negative. Love reading about your goals. I am hoping our family can go this week without getting any kind of take out. I tell my husband often that our discovery of the true ease of Door Dash has been our downfall. But here’s to a better week!

    1. Thank you, Elizabeth! We don’t have the ability to get much delivered to our home and we’d be in BIG trouble if we did!! Good luck with your goal of no take out — it is SO hard to figure out what to cook when it’s so hot and our time is so occupied with the kiddos!

  3. phew, I am so glad that the tests came out negative!! KUDOS to Bug, I’m sure this wasn’t easy for him, all the better that he complied to the doc! 🙂

I’ll see if I can write something about about my journals or morning pages book, I don’t know when, but I will let you know once it’s ready! 🙂
