Hobonichi Weeks – Week 25 of 2020

On Monday mornings I like to spend a few minutes reflecting back on the week that just ended. My trusted Hobonichi Weeks helps me with this – I use its lush tamoe river paper to track my daily/weekly tasks, my daily habits that I’m working to strengthen, and my writing time each day. On the left side of the spread, I use the dated boxes to write a few sentences about the day – it can be gratitude, gripes, or just a quick summary of something I want to remember. You might recall that I’m working hard to transition to a more plant based diet, so of course I’m using my Hobo to help get me there!

Before I get to my food habits, I just want to take a few minutes to discuss a few other things from last week. First of all, my big streaks are still alive. This morning marked 78 days of morning pages and yesterday was 74 days of 10,000 or more steps. I am pleased as punch. I’ve said it before, my success is thanks to my hobonichi weeks (not wanting to break the chain) and the gentle accountability that I get from this blog. I know that no one reading is going to shame me for breaking my streaks, but I get to so happy about sharing my successes here that I want to make sure they keep happening!

I’ve struggled a bit with writing my evening reflection before bed and have been writing them the next morning instead. I hope I can get back on track this week because the day’s thoughts are much more fresh when I try to remember them that night. I’m reminding myself that this habit takes less than two minutes, so exhaustion isn’t really a good excuse for skipping it!

Now on to my new endeavor: eating healthier. As you might remember, last week’s goal was to avoid fast food and any eating out. Every successful day earned $5 into my corgi fund. I only ate out once – my husband and I ordered sushi takeout after the kids were in bed so that we could celebrate Father’s Day. It was a planned indulgence, but it still counts against this goal. But that still means that $30 will be going into my corgi fund! We had a tempting fast food situation earlier in the day, but I was able to resist by reminding myself that I’m a person who prepares all of her own meals. The mantra worked, friends!

This week I’m going to stick with the same plan. No fast food or eating out at all and every successful day earns $5 into my corgi fund. I should really be stepping it up a bit right now, but I haven’t made the time to think through my next steps!

I hope you all have a great start to your week. I’ll be back on Wednesdays with an update on my reading and knitting!

  1. I’ve been inspired by your streaks and have, I think, 35 days so far of 10,000 steps or more! I accidentally forgot to journal the other night (I got distracted by my kid with a difficult going-to-bed evening), but luckily that’s something I care less about.

  2. I love the corgi fund! What is the corgi going to do with it? đŸ˜‰ (sorry)

I have to admit that “don’t break the chain” doesn’t work for me, but holding yourself accountabe – and then seeing successes like reminding yourself that nope, no fastfood! – is great. Congratulations!! (oh and btw, because I forgot to reply last time – nope, I haven’t tried Starbuck’s Chai. We have like one store in the city, and I have to admit that I find it a little too expensive. But who knows! Once won’t kill me, so I’ll check it out! đŸ™‚ )

    1. Hahaha – funny!

Thanks for your kind words! And you’re right, Starbucks is too expensive. We don’t get it often, but sometimes an iced coffee from Starbucks really hits the spot on a super hot day! And I’m happy that I’m finding ways to reproduce my favorite drink!

      1. True that!!! A treat is a treat, and it should be one. đŸ™‚ I’m going to check out the Chai! (if they have it, I don’t know if they ´have the same menu everwhere)

  3. Congrats on all your weekly successes…I too find writing in my gratitude journal tough in the PM…when the sun goes down, so do I… so, often, I update my gratitude journal in the AM – when I’m refreshed and wide awake. I am so very much a morning person.
Carry on Sarah! I admire your sticktoitiveness (that ain’t a word ;-)).
    Cheers~

    1. I’m also a morning person and I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds it difficult to journal in the evening. It seems like the most effective way – when the memories and feelings are fresh. But it’s definitely difficult for me!
