Unraveled Wednesday – Week 24 of 2020

I’m joining Kat at As Kat Knits to share what I’ve been reading and knitting lately. If you’re looking for inspiration, please click over to her blog and visit some of the other bloggers in the linkup! I have an odd smattering of books and some exciting knitting progress to share with you this week – including a spoiler for Clue 2 of the TTL MKAL.

Reading

Finished This Week:

I didn’t think I was going to have any finishes this week given how glued I’ve been to the television, but I’m happy to share two books with you.

I finished White Nights, the second in the Shetland series, on audio. I am loving this series! Again – I was shocked by the murderer. I love getting to know the people on the Shetland Islands. I had no idea there were so communities scattered about, but worry that there are so many murders!! (Just kidding, please know that I realize this is a fictional series.)

Atomic Habits has been on my radar since it was published and I was waiting for my state’s Overdrive system to purchase it but they never did. So I got the Kindle edition and quickly gobbled it up. It’s one of the best books on building good habits that I’ve ever read. There are a ton of examples and strategies sprinkled throughout that were helpful. I’m already incorporating many of the principles to help make more healthy food choices.

Currently Reading

Unfortunately I haven’t made any more progress on The Library of Legends, but it’s still on my Kindle and waiting for me to return.

Red Bones is my current audio and the third Shetland book. I do remember this episode from the TV series – the visual of the archeology dig was a stunning one on screen – but I don’t remember the resolution, so I’m happy about that. The characters in this one are fascinating and I’m listening to it as often as possible throughout the day. I started it on Sunday and am 70% through it!

I started Anne of Ingleside last week and am not enjoying it. I want to continue with the series and have found that the quality of one has no bearing on the next book in line, but I have no desire to pick this one up when I have a few minutes to read. That’s not a good sign!

I currently have a stack of library books and a lot of new books on my Kindle that I’m itching to get to, which may account for some of my reluctance to sit down with Anne of Ingleside and The Library of Legends. So I’m trying to take deep breaths and focus on one book at a time!

Knitting

I finished a sleeve on my Birkin! And after I took this picture, I started the second sleeve. I’m in the home stretch now, but I am so bored with this project, y’all. I want to abandon it altogether, but I keep telling myself to work on it just a few days each week and it will get done. Finishing this by the end of June be a test of my willpower!

The second clue for the TTL MKAL was released on Monday and it drowned out everything else in my life. Friends, I’m really enjoying this pattern! As soon as I start to get bored with one motif, it shifts into something else entirely. I’m so glad I decided to join this knit along and didn’t stick to what I was planning to knit this summer!

That’s it for me today! I hope the rest of the week brings you happiness, good books, and some wonderful woolen projects. I plan to be back on Friday with some picture from the week.

  1. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the Shetland series! I’m trying to finish up book 6 today (I have less than 100 pages left, I think). I know it’s fiction, but I also find it kind of shocking that for such a small, remote place, they have so many murders — especially because they keep emphasizing how it’s such a safe place that no one locks their doors! I am confident that you can power through that final sleeve of your Birkin. If it helps, figure out how many rounds you have to knit to finish the sleeve and then figure out how many you have to do per day to finish by the end of the month. I bet if it’s a small number, you’ll easily do more than that amount at least a few times and finish with time to spare.

    1. Thank you, thank you! My goal is to use the baby’s naptimes to power through. I think if I can stay focused, then I’ll finish it VERY soon!

  2. Love your jumper and the shawl looks so beautiful and summery. Yellow is my favourite! I will definitely have to look for The Library of Legends as one of my year long challenge prompts iis books with ‘library’ in the title nd I have not seen this one before. And it is historical fiction – win, win!
Hope you have a lovely week!

  3. Anne of Green Gables is one of my all-time favorite books, but I read the rest of the series along time ago so I think I’ve forgotten them. Red Bones sounds like a much better read. Your Birkin will be done soon and you’ll be so glad you finished such a beautiful sweater!

    1. I’m really enjoying the Shetland series – I think you’re the one who originally recommended them to me?

  6. The shawl is bright and beautiful. I’m glad you are enjoying the project. Just this week I decided to pay attention and find the projects that bring me joy. One thing I do to keep going on a large project is to clip a stitch marker on the row when I pick it up to knit. Somehow being able to see a few rows projects is reinforcing and keeps me going.
