Hobonichi Weeks – Week 19 of 2020

Happy Monday, friends. I hope everyone survived the weird weather this weekend! It snowed all day on Saturday but luckily there was only spotty accumulation in our yard. Nothing was hurt in our garden and the snow was completely melted by Sunday. I had to unpack our big coats in order for us to go outside because it was cold!

On Mondays I like to reflect back on my week. I use a Hobonichi Weeks to keep track of all of my little accomplishments each day – the tasks I complete, the habits I’m practicing, and the amount of time I spend writing each day – and like to spend a bit of time at the beginning of the week to think about the days coming up.

Week 19 was another good one for me. I’ve had a few of these in a row and I’m proud of that. Not a lot of tears on my part, which is a big change from a few weeks ago! Bear and I are settling into a routine for learning at home, which has been so much fun. I’ve enjoyed finding ways to adapt Bear’s assignments into something that accentuates his strengths while slowly tugging at the areas that he finds challenging. I feel very lucky to be able to spend this time with him!

I’ve continued journaling every day and somehow haven’t broken the chain since April 6th! So it’s been over a month of morning pages without missing a single day – I’ve definitely never managed that before! And I’m in the midst of a 32 day streak of having 10,000 steps or more each day – another thing I’ve never done!

I didn’t fold or put away laundry once last week! I did wash about 4 loads throughout the week, but I just dipped in and out of the basket all week. I hope to get everything folded and put away this afternoon. Other than laundry, we’ve had a pretty good week with the rest of the chores and tasks around the house somehow.

Now we’re beginning week 20! I’d really like to replicate the last few weeks. I’m practicing letting go of control and learning to ride the waves. I’m trying to remember that my job as a mother and wife is to be an encourager and a soft place to land even when I’m neck deep in dirty dishes and piles of laundry. Or trying to get my six year old to write for a school assignment. I’m trying to take my eye off of controlling the outcome and instead focus on the process, no matter how long it takes. I’m doing my best to make everything fun and special, honor everyone’s feelings, and still move us forward. It’s hard and sometimes I fail miserably, but I keep trying. Just like everyone right now.

Where did you find success last week? And how do you hope to find success in the week coming up? I’d love to hear about some of your “little” accomplishments in the last couple of weeks!

  1. Great job on your streaks! I’ve been journaling most days, but occasionally I have a long day and forget (because I usually journal before bed). In those cases, I catch up the next day.

  2. You’re on such a great roll! I was happy to get a few nagging chores done this week–namely removing all the blinds in our house, washing them, & reinstalling. I started cleaning up digital photos after 9 years of neglect. And I cleaned off my desk! (That felt really good.)

    1. Okay – cleaning the blinds is a BIG DEAL!!! That’s really impressive! I’d be totally overwhelmed by 9 years of pictures and would be too paralyzed to even start – well done!! And cleaning my desk always feels amazing – nice!!

    1. Thank you for helping normalize it for me!! I’m always so happy to read about other journalers out there… it seems like it’s a rare thing now, but then I’m always amazed by how many of my blogger friends are such kindred spirits.

  3. I love that you’re taking pride in and celebrating all the accomplishments. with a little side-eye to the things you’d like to do better. I have finally gotten back into my morning routine (journaling, prayer, centering prayer) and it’s really grounding my days. I am hoping to have a streak of clean inbox and Feedly this week. and also to finish Looking Back at April (before the month is half over 😉

  4. “to be an encourager and a soft place to land” … Wonderful words! Let’s see…Last week I ordered light fixtures for all the bathrooms, worked double hard on the garden, cleaned out the garage to turn it into a functioning room, and danced under the moonlight! This week I started by posting a blog. It’s been awhile for me. Life really catches up with me and the workload really piles up, so something has to give. That’s great you are journaling. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week! Koko❀
