Hobonichi Weeks – Week 17 of 2020

What a lovely weekend! We had a lot of outside time on Saturday – time in the garden and just sitting on our front step soaking up the sunshine. We needed it – it had been so cold over the last few weeks so it was nice to be outside without coats. Today it’s raining, but it doesn’t look like the forecasted snow is going to happen!

I mentioned in Friday’s post that I’ve been tired, so I tried to honor that feeling this weekend by letting myself sleep in. I’m not sure if it helped because I get super grumpy if I don’t get time to myself before the kids get up! By choosing to sleep in I also chose not to spend any time working on blog posts which makes me a bit nervous. But that’s okay – sleep is good. I still managed to finish my third full week of morning pages, which is an exciting streak! And I did a bit more reading than the last couple of weeks.

Every week I have a good laugh at my inconsistency – some weeks I mop 4-5 times, other weeks I don’t mop at all. I’m constantly trying to find that delicate balance that changes on me based on so many variables. I never know what to expect and that’s usually a good thing! Keeps things spicy.

Last week was much better for me emotionally. I surrendered to the craziness of it all and reminded myself that this is unprecedented. I don’t have to be perfect. It’s okay for the house to be messy, it’s okay for us not to finish all of Bear’s assigned school work, it’s okay to have to dig through laundry baskets to root out our clean clothes every day. This is how it is right now and I’m lucky. So thanks to you all for your kind words!

I don’t have this week’s spread set up yet, but you can probably imagine what it’s going to look like.

Here’s to the 18th week of the year! I wish you all a calm, happy, and healthy one.

  1. One helpful thing I keep seeing is a reminder that this isn’t just about staying at home — it’s about being at home during a worldwide crisis. So pretty much anything you manage to get done during this time is A-OK.

    1. Ha! Yes! I’m pleased with the state of things at my house right now. I wish I could extend the day by a couple of hours to spend more time knitting and reading, but overall – it’s been good!!

      I hope you’re having a good week!

  2. What Sarah said! That is such a good (and crucial) reminder! I have started a Pandemic Journal to keep track of things that maybe someone will want to read someday! (and I thought that getting clean clothes from the laundry basket was what everyone did!)

    1. A Pandemic Journal is an awesome idea!

I used to dig clean clothes out of the basket every day before I had kids. Now it takes so much time to dig out FOUR WHOLE outfits every day (1 for me and 1 for each of the kids). That’s the frustrating part!! Haha!

  3. I forgot that you were using a Sojourner. I spent time in my journal yesterday and that was really good. I laughed at the mopping. I haven’t mopped in weeks but then we don’t have little people in the house. And yet, I’m sure it needs to be done. Be gentle with yourself.

    1. I used to go months without mopping! The floors were incredibly dirty and it didn’t bother me at all. Now such things REALLY bother me! Life is so weird sometimes.

I’m glad you did some journaling – it’s amazing what a little time with a cherished notebook and pen can do. Take care!!
