Friday Cozies – Week 15 of 2020

Happy Friday, friends. I hope this week has treated you well and you’re able to put your feet up and get cozy this weekend. This week has gone by really quickly for me — there’s no slowing down during the day as soon as the kids are up. I’m lucky to have them because they’ve kept me going non-stop. I’d probably be thinking and worrying about the state of the world way too much if it wasn’t for them.

On Fridays I like to share a few things that I’ve been enjoying from the cozy life. This week it’s all about the TV – perfect for curling up with a pile of wool or a handsewing project! I hope you find something in this post that you’d be interested in watching this weekend.

Chocolat is my absolute favorite Easter movie and I watch it every year. I am giddy absolutely all day thinking about it. When I finally get all of the kids in bed and turn it on? Magic! I love everything about it – that it’s set in a French village, the sets, the costumes, the chocolate making. The book by Joanne Harris is also excellent, but this is one of the rare times that I prefer the movie over the book – just for its ease of consumption and the beauty that this movie puts on display.

The new Masterpiece on PBS, World on Fire, started last Sunday and the first episode was excellent. It’s a WWII drama and it seems to be structured like some of my very favorite WWII books – multiple points of view, multiple story lines, and stretching all across Europe. I can’t wait to watch more of this!

Tim and Heidi are back with their new show, Making the Cut! I used to be a huge Project Runway fan, but it seemed to lose something over the last few years and I stopped being interested. But Making the Cut is a reinvention of the original show and is amazing so far! I love the designers they’ve chosen – they are from all over the world and the diversity brings so much to the runway. There also seems to be absolutely no budget for this show, so prepare yourself for a total fantasy world!

One added benefit with this version of the show is that the designers can leave their designs and patterns for a seamstress to work on overnight. While I think that’s more realistic for designers, makes for a more well-finished garment, and allows the designers to be more extravagant and creative, I do wish we’d at least get to meet the seamstresses! They’re almost like house elves – we never see them and they do all sorts of magic. It feels like they’ve been erased from the story.

Short and sweet this week! Please – I hope you all stay safe and happy this weekend. Do you have plans to watch anything you’re excited about?

  1. You, too, Katie — healthy and happy. Starting to work from home next week, so I hope to have a bit more time. Thanks for the viewing suggestions. WWII is still on our list, but Maddow has been intruding on our viewing time this week. 🙂

    1. I’m overjoyed to hear that you’re going to be working from home! Caleb is too, I’m sure.

I hope you get to start World on Fire soon. I think it’s a crowd pleaser. Both Matt and I really enjoyed the first episode and can’t wait until this Sunday for the next!

  2. Would you believe I’ve never seen Chocolat? I think I’ve seen bits and pieces but never the full thing. I’ll have to see if it’s available to stream somewhere. I also enjoyed the first episode of World on Fire and may binge the rest of the season (we have Passport). And I was also thinking about checking out Making the Cut. I’ve watched exactly one season of Project Runway and didn’t like who they picked to win, but I suppose I was looking at it as a potential consumer and not with a eye to high fashion. I’m glad to hear it’s good.

    Have a good weekend!

    1. Easter is the perfect time to watch Chocolat – I hope you can find it somewhere!! It seems like a lot of us caught World on Fire – yay!! It’s going to be so great. And let me know if you decide to watch Making the Cut. I think it’s so much fun. And they’re using Juki sewing machines, which is my main machine! (petty, I know.)

  4. Lately I’ve been enjoying all the extra holiday episodes of Great British Baking Show on Netflix and watching new episodes of Brooklyn Nine Nine on network TV. I also finally just watched the Brene Brown Netflix special from last year. It was excellent. Hope you have a good weekend!

    1. You’ve been watching some good ones! I haven’t seen any of Brooklyn Nine Nine but I hear it’s hilarious. I loved Andy Samberg on SNL, so I’m sure I’d love this show!

Brene Brown is amazing. We went to the same school for Social Work and she’s a fellow Texan. I love her!

      Enjoy your weekend!
