Friday Cozies – Week 11

Happy Friday, friends! I hope your week has treated you well. My middle bug has been home sick this whole week and my oldest was home yesterday and today, so things have been up and down here. But I’ve spent a lot of time cuddling on the couch, which means that I’ve got a little more reading done during the day than usual, which is always a pretty nice surprise. Plus, they’re just so darn sweet and I’ve enjoyed this extra time with them!

On Fridays I like to gather up a few things that I’ve been enjoying or thinking about. I hope you find something interesting here!

I’ve started tracking the books I read to my youngest. I bought this inexpensive planner and just jot down the titles as we go. It feels like I read a ton to her and I’ve often wondered if it’s true. So I thought having a physical log of everything we read would be a fun and handy way to keep track of it. Who knows how long I’ll keep it up and she’s already scribbled on several of the pages, but it has the potential to be quite the keepsake for her!

I’m realizing now that I read practically all day, thanks to all of the reading I do with the baby, the evening reading I do with my two older kids, and my own reading at night. And I love that!

Over the last few weeks, I’ve never used more Lysol and Clorox in my life. In a panic, I was able to stock up before everything started disappearing from the shelves due to the coronavirus (not hoard, just replenish). I spray down doorknobs and wipe light switches every day. Of course, my two oldest ended up sick somehow so I’m beginning to wonder if it’s done any good. New Hampshire is up to 6 cases and I’m thinking of everyone in the hardest hit areas. This is not cozy, but having a squeaky clean house is. So I’ll take that!

Speaking of squeaky clean, we splurged on a new Dyson vacuum. It’s cordless and is perfect for zipping up the small messes that seem to take over the house! It’s really helpful to have something small and light to whip out and to not worry about cords. It’s so much easier to use on the stairs and to take out to the van. We have an upright Dyson that we bought about 3 years ago that has been a lifesaver and I’ve used nearly every day, so I’m really confident in this brand and will probably never stray.

This is totally ridiculous, but I continue to be in love with Ticonderoga pencils. Truly – they are the best pencils I’ve ever used. They sharpen to such a beautiful point and the erasers are like magic. I can’t be the only one who still gets excited about a fresh Ticonderoga?

Our hens are encouraged by the longer days and have started laying again. We get 8-10 eggs a day and are already pretty overwhelmed by them. This weekend I plan to make a ton of Victoria Sandwich sponges and freeze them. They will be ready when berry season hits us hard, so then we’ll only have to make jam to layer them together!

That’s it for this weird little post. I hope you all have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks Jordy! I feel so lucky to be able to stay home, especially with all of the school closings. I can’t imagine what it would be like if I had to go to work every day!! Or even work from home with all three kids here – that would be a nightmare!

I’m keeping you in my thoughts – stay healthy!! Has Rachel made it back from Ireland yet? I hope so!

  1. Let’s face it, schools are a hot bed of germs, no matter how hard the custodial staff and teachers try to keep it clean. At least by wiping down the frequently touched surfaces every day, you are keeping the adults in the house from getting sick. That‘s important too.

    1. Thank you for the encouragement! I’ve been tempted to throw my lysol out the window and just let it be. But I won’t. I’ll continue to Lysol and Clorox and disinfect every little thing I can think of.

I hope you’re staying well in all of this craziness!

      1. My daughters are in college and have been sent home to complete classes virtually. Love having them home but they also each have a cat and I have 3 – so I feel pretty overrun with cats sometimes. I haven’t been worrying too much. I’m not in the danger zone age or health-wise, though my husband wants me to contact the doctor to be sure. One of my potentially fatal health events that I referred to on my blog was blog clots in my lungs. I’m on blood thinners now, to make sure it doesn’t happen again – but when you are on blood thinners, you can’t take pain relievers, so if I were to get a fever, we’d have to navigate that new world. Craziness – stay well ❤️

      2. Oh my goodness – the cats! We are in such a weird time!! I hope you stay well and safe – I didn’t know that people on blood thinners can’t take pain relievers, so I’m wishing you a pain-free COVID-19 season!!

  2. We got that cordless Dyson last year and love it! It’s great for small messes, like crumbs under the chairs we sit in for meals.

I hope all the kiddos are feeling better soon.

    1. Yes! It’s a beautiful machine!! The kids are feeling better, but my husband and I are now down with whatever has been in the house – holy cow! It never ends!
