Friday Cozies – Week 6 of 2020

We’re wrapping up the sixth week of the year! On Fridays I like to share a few things that have excited me or I’ve been thinking about. This is a fun roundup that I enjoy putting together – I hope you find a snippet of something interesting here!

While listening to this week’s On Being episode (which was fabulous, by the way), I learned about On Being’s latest project – Poetry Unbound. Hosted by the Irish poet Pádraig Ó Tuama, Poetry Unbound releases episodes twice a week. Tuama reads a short poem, talks about it, and then reads it again. I’m not a person who understands poetry and have loved all of the episodes that I’ve heard so far. It’s amazing to hear a professional talk about his craft.

Mercury is currently visible in the night sky through February 17. Mercury is an elusive planet given its proximity to the sun and we have a small window of time to observe it:

Currently, Mercury is visible about 35 to 40 minutes after sunset, very near to the horizon, about 25 degrees south of due west. Your clenched fist held at arm’s length measures roughly 10 degrees, so approximately 2.5 “fists” to the left of due west, along the horizon, will bring you to Mercury.

I hope to practice using our telescope and catch a glimpse of it soon! I don’t know enough about the night sky and would like to work on that this year.

I recently learned about Plum Deluxe from Elizabeth at A Wise Woman in Progress (Thanks, Elizabeth!). I got my first order from them last Saturday and am smitten! I contained myself by only ordering two blends: Royal Wedding Black Tea and Reading Nook Tea Blend. These are such lovely treats on a chilly afternoon. I’m seriously considering joining their Tea Club.

I am really loving knitting lately. I’ve been knitting for almost 15 years, which seems impossible because I can’t be old enough for that. And of course, my devotion to it has waxed and waned over the years. I thought that I would be knitting non-stop once I moved to New Hampshire from Texas, but I unexpectedly jumped right into graduate school so knitting was quickly pushed aside. Over the last few months I’ve found myself obsessively thinking about yarns and patterns. Do you know that overwhelming feeling when it seems like there are too many choices out there? I’m getting that feeling. The good thing is that I have my next few projects all lined up, so that helps. But I’ve been bitten by the bug again and it feels good to be so excited about what’s in store for me!

I hope you all have a great weekend. We’re covered with snow again (I can’t decide whether to cheer or cry – I’ll choose to cheer!) – I hope you’re all staying cozy with the people and things you love.

  1. I discovered that podcast as well this week and have been enjoying it tremendously, mostly I think because I don’t know ANYONE who reads and discusses poetry, so it is nice to hear someone (with a beautiful voice) discuss it!

Those teas look so beautiful! Have a great weekend!

    1. I have no idea how to discuss poetry and this podcast has been terrific for me! And I agree with you about his beautiful voice!

The tea is delicious! I’m trying to pace myself so that I don’t fly through it 😀

I hope you have a great weekend too!
