Friday Cozies – 11.29.19

Happy Post-Thanksgiving, friends. Are you a Black Friday shopper? I am not a fan of crowds so I won’t be partaking in any shopping out of the house, but my husband and I are eyeing a deal or two online.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! This was my first year as a stay at home mom, and I have never felt so prepared before the big day. We had everything prepped the day before except for the homemade yeast rolls. But I was able to give my Biggest Bear a bottle of bubbles and that kept all of the kiddos occupied while I worked on getting the dough ready. It’s amazing to finally have a child old enough to occupy himself and his siblings!

I’m trying to resume my Friday cozy things — just a few things that I either have or covet that remind us to embrace ordinary life. Thanks to Thanksgiving, I’ve been spending a lot of time in the kitchen and now I realize that this weekend’s list reflects that!

My family is wild about madeleines. We buy them at Sam’s Club and fly through the great, big tub. There are a million and three amazing recipes on Pinterest for madeleines and I’d love to try to make them. I’ve been ogling this elegantly shaped madeleine pan.

I’ve been eating a lot of toast and jam lately. It’s so easy to pop a slice of bread into the toaster and then slather it in butter and jam while I’m getting the kids ready for school. Probably not the healthiest, but I always think about Ruth Galloway in her cottage by the not-quite-sea eating toast and tea and I feel invigorated. I’ve tried the seedless raspberry jam by Tiptree Preserves and it was divine. I’m dying to try their Little Scarlet Strawberry Preserve next!

And when it comes to tea time, I’m a floral girl. Actually, I’m a floral girl when it comes to almost anything. Latey I’ve been pining over Royal Albert Mugs. They are full of flowers and beautifully shaped. I’d love one of each, please.

Over the last year we’ve gotten a new toaster and splurged on an electric tea kettle. We went with the Nostalgia brand because of their vintage shapes and their availability of aqua! I’ve loved having easy access to hot water for tea or instant coffee (I know, I know, but I just love this Maxwell House Hazelnut instant coffee!). We switched out our old toaster oven for just a regular toaster — we’re saving a ton of space, it’s not as messy, and it’s so much more lovely to look at!

Can we just take a moment to admire a few #kitchengoals? The Great British Bake Off set gives me all kinds of excitement. I love the pastel colors, the hanging teacups, the bunting, the cake pans, the baskets of eggs everywhere, the flowers, everything. And my favorite part of the show? Seeing the hosts and judges at the table together so I can check out their teacups. I’m not kidding. Every time.

Okay, I’m off to pine for a GBBO kitchen. I hope this weekend is full of repeats of the Great British Baking show for me (I mean, is there a cozier show?)! What’s your favorite thing in your kitchen? Do you have a favorite teacup or mug? What do you hope to indulge in this weekend??!

  1. My coveted mugs are from the brilliant Jenny the Potter. I have 3 and they are prized possessions! My latest tea craze is Trader Joe’s Winter Wake Up tea – it is so good!

And, as for coffee…. I have been spoiled with multiple sized Bialetti pots, topped with a wee bit of frothed half and half and a drizzle of my home made cinnamon syrup. Small things that feel so luxurious.

    1. Lovely! I don’t get to go to Trader Joe’s that often, but now you’re making me want to look for that tea!! Your coffee sounds divine. I so agree that it’s about the little things — it’s so nice to be able to splurge on things in the home to make everyday feel special.

  2. Hello! I stumbled across your blog and I have to say I love this so much. I am an avid tea drinker and baker so your spoke to my heart with both of those mentions. How I have NEVER noticed the tea cups in GBBO I will never know. Probably because I was too busy staring at the deliciousness that was the baked goods trying to decided if I have the gumption to try some of that on my own. Anyway, I look forward to reading through more. 🙂
