Unraveled – 11/20/19

Reading

Last week I was struggling through One for the Blackbird, One for the Crow. I eventually finished it and can’t give it a ringing endorsement. It was about two families in the Wyoming Territory who were forced to rely on each other for survival one winter. I enjoyed the descriptions of life on the farm and the beautiful Wyoming landscapes, but I found it to really drag in a lot of places.

I finally started Plainsong! I’m only about 40 pages in so I can’t say much about it. I will say that I’m enjoying the brevity of words that Kent Haruf provides when compared to One for the Blackbird, One for the Crow!

I also started Lovely War by Julie Berry. I’m listening to this on audio and am nervous that I’ll never finish it because I don’t have a good track record with audiobooks lately! Its structure is interesting – they are stories told by Aphrodite to Hephaestus and Ares as she makes a case for love in the time of war. I’m getting a glimpse into WWI, which I don’t often get to see!

Knitting

I finished my Old Romance sweater!! My goals was to finish this by the end of 2019 and here I am – with time to spare! This was my fastest attempt at a sweater; I started it at some point in August and have finished in November. I’ve knitted two other adult sized sweaters, each of which has taken me at least a year. But I can thank the impeachment hearings for getting this finished. The baby napped about an hour for each of the hearings, so I was able to groove along while she snoozed.

I took these pictures yesterday afternoon, but last night I managed to weave in all of those ends, give it a nice warm bath, and lay it out to block. I hope to have some finished pictures by the time we meet again next week!

I still have 3/4 of a hank of the Malabrigo leftover, so I’ve decided to start a So Faded Pint Size for the baby. I’m using scraps leftover from previous projects, so it won’t be a perfect fade, but I don’t think my Baby Birdie will notice. I started it last night during the crazy late hearings and then all of the CNN analysis afterwards. I hope to have some progress pictures ready for next week!
