I almost titled this post “Unraveling,” which might have been a Freudian slip! But don’t worry, I’m not actually unraveling. In fact, I’m doing really well. I hope to write an update on a few things soon, but let’s focus on the fun things for now: books and knitting!
I’ve made about an inch and a half of progress on my Reagan Sweater since I shared a picture of it last week. I won’t post another picture because there’s no discernible difference, just miles of that lace!! But I did snap a picture of the progress on my Cozy Memories Blanket, which is sweetly coming along. Like I said last week – this is such a great project that requires very little thought and can be picked up/put down so easily. I’m really enjoying it!
It’s been a slow reading week for me because I’ve been focused on audio books. For a while I’d been finishing about 3 books a week, so it’s probably okay for me to slow down a bit on reading. But part of me worries that I’m losing my focus and letting distractions find their way in. I’m just going to go with the flow for now and enjoy what comes my way.
I finished Glass Houses and loved it. I think that this was the most suspenseful Armand Gamache that I’ve read – the structure of this novel was incredible and added to the intrigue. I thought it was brilliant. And creepy!! I just got an email from Overdrive saying that the next book in this series was just checked out to me (on audio). I’m excited but nervous – this is the last published book in the Armand Gamache series, which means that I’ll have to WAIT for the next one!!!
Searching for Sunday by Rachel Held Evans
Yes – I’m very slowly working through this one. The further I read, the sadder I get. Evans was a smart and funny woman who was only about 2 years older than me – her death is just so tragic. Her doubts and questions are comforting and familiar to me, but I’m not sure if I can overcome my own the way she seemed to be able to. And that’s probably okay – I’m going to keep exploring.
The other bit of good news around here is that I’m slowly unpacking all of my sewing supplies. Once things got really crazy and overwhelming, I’d packed it all away into the basement so that I wouldn’t feel so bad about never getting to it. But this weekend, my husband helped me reclaim a corner of the basement. I still haven’t sewn, but let’s hope that the time will come! I’m especially looking forward to getting back to hand sewing on the project pictured below, which doesn’t even require my machine but does require a small bit of time for cutting fabric… which I can never seem to find!

Thanks! The fabrics are Liberty of London – I was hoping to do the entire quilt out of Liberty fabrics, but I don’t think that will happen now.. it’s quite pricey!

Beautiful hand piecing. I too am looking for a little time for sewing. I sure like the way you varied the square sizes in the blanket. I’m sure that keeps the knitting interesting and also allows for using up various amounts of leftover yarn. Gamache is a compelling series. I also recommend the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacquelyn Winspear. The first book of the series opens at the end of WW1 in England – a different time and place from the Louise Penny books.
