May 2019 – Recent Books that I’ve Loved

The second half of April continued to be a fabulous reading month for me! But May has felt stymied, mostly because I was stubborn about actually finishing one book (what happened to The Year of the Abandoned Book??!) that I didn’t enjoy. It killed my reading mojo!

As always, you can head over to my 2019 Goodreads Shelf to see ALL of the books that I’ve read this year, because they don’t always make it to my blog anymore.

Thank you to the Modern Mrs. Darcy for hosting this monthly linkup! If you are looking for some book recommendations, click on over to her post and find plenty of dedicated readers with some incredible books.

News of the World

I think this was my first ever “western” and I simply adored it. The characters were rich and engaging and I was delighted by the fact that Captain Kidd made his living by riding around North Texas to read newspapers to the people settled there.

The Lost Girls of Paris

I love WWII novels set in France. I just do. I will read every single one of them and gush, I’m sure of it. This one was especially good, even if it seemed a bit far-fetched in a couple of places. This tells the story of English women who helped The Resistance in France. I loved it!

The Editor

oh my gosh, oh my gosh, this was a dream come true! Set in NYC in the early 1990s, James Smale finally finds someone who is interested in buying his novel. Lo and behold, it is JACKIE-freaking-O!! Can you imagine? This was a fantastic book that was heartwarming and hopeful. I’ve been telling everyone I see about it!

Better Than Before

I recently blogged about this because I felt it was so helpful to my goal-setting lifestyle. Looking at the goodreads reviews, it seems like some people found it to be preachy and one sided, but this is the best book I’ve ever read by Gretchen Rubin. I think she was honest about her biases and I was able to take those with a grain of salt! But it was so helpful to look at strategies for goal setting while keeping my own tendencies in mind!

How about you? Tell me what you’re reading!!

  1. I need to get back into reading, I haven’t picked anything lately that perks my intrest. Some of these sound good. I’m going to check your good reads. I just got a new Amazon tablet and saw the Goodreads app.

    1. Please join! I’d love to follow you. It’s tough to get out of a reading slump sometimes. Have you read anything by Sarah Addison Allen? They are so good and I think they’re perfect to help pull a person out of a slump. They’re magical realisms, usually set in the south, and so cozy.
