Ten Most Recent Additions to My Reading List

Happy Top Ten Tuesday! Thanks to That Artsy Reader Girl for posting this weekly link-up. Today’s topic explores books recently added to my wish list. I feel like the list is ever-expanding and link-ups like this don’t help me exercise much self control!!

I recently discovered Marilynne Robinson and I’m ready to devour her, despite being terrified that she’s way too smart for me. I started with Gilead and am in love. Did you know that President Barack Obama interviewed her in 2015, rather than the other way around?

The woman is brilliant, thinks about the meaning of life, and might actually have a few answers for it. Do I expect that these will be totally over my head? Yes. Do I expect to feel the need to revisit them through all of my life’s stages to understand more deeply? Yes. Isn’t that what literature is supposed to be about?? Yes!

Still Writing: The Perils and Pleasures of a Creative Life by Dani Shapiro

I haven’t read anything by Shapiro, despite knowing that I’ll love her. Even more? I have a real thing for books on writing.

Slouching Toward Bethlehem by Joan Didion

I started listening to a new podcast called Keeping a Notebook – it’s fabulous. The host references Didion’s essays throughout and I feel like I should revisit her. I’ve sort of written her off because I didn’t feel like I could relate to her life when I read The Year of Magical Thinking. But I’m going to try again.

The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish

I can’t remember where I discovered this one (sorry if it was from you!), but it’s described as a marriage between AS Byatt’s Possession and Geraldine Brooks’ People of the Book – and I loved both! I was a tiny bit frivolous and bought this one for my upcoming birthday and it should arrive soon. I can’t wait!

Atomic Habits: An Easy and Proven Way to Build Good Habits and Break Bad Ones by James Clear

Anne Bogel posted a picture of this on social media and raved about it. She is my role model for productivity, so if she found it useful? Yes, please.

Milkman by Anna Burns

This was a recent winner of the Man Booker Prize and shortlisted for the Baileys prize, but I eventually added it to my wishlist because it’s on the shortlist for the Tournament of Books.

Okay – so many books and so little time! Have you read any of these? What do you think of my list?
